
The Green River Pirates boys team welcomed the Wayne Badgers to town on Wednesday night, it was a tight contest but at the end the Badgers walked away with the 59-54 victory.
Coming off an 18 points loss to Mount Vernon last Thursday, the Pirates battled through all four quarters and went in to the locker down by just four. The second half they would add 30 points but Wayne still hung on to take the win.
The Pirates were led in the game by Rad Hughes who kept on his scoring tear dropping 34, Alex Mendez would chip in with seven.
Green River is sitting at 3-7 on the season and No. 15 in the Utah High School Activities Associations state rankings that will be used for seeding purposes when the 1A State Championship Tournament begins in the middle of February. Nine games are still on their schedule including match-ups with Telos (No. 9 in the 1A RPI), Mount Vernon (No. 7 in 1A) and the Grand County Red Devils who currently reside in the No.3 spot in 3A.
Up next for the Pirates a contest with the Tabiona Tigers on Saturday and then the game against Grand in Moab on Monday.
