The Green River boys faced the Tabiona Tigers at home Saturday. And though senior Rad Hughes kept his scoring barrage going it wasn’t enough and they would fall by seven, 77-64.
The tigers hold a record of 5-8 and currently sit in the No. 11 spot in the state RPI rankings. Those rankings will be used to determine seeding in the State Championship Tournament in February.
The Pirates came out quietly scoring 15 in the first quarter and allowing Tabiona to score 15. The Tigers would push the lead to 14 points by halftime. The Pirates mounted a comeback in the second half actually outscoring the Tigers by one point but still fell just short, taking the seven point loss.
For the Tigers, Chance Lazenby had 30 points in the win. Kade Stewart added 12 and Logan Rhodes 11.
Hughes led all scorers with 37, leading all scorers. Payton Romero added 10 and Alex Mendez eight in the loss.
The Pirates will need a short memory as they are on the road Monday to face the Grand County Red Devils. Grand sits at 14-1 and is ranked No. 3 in the 3A RPI.
