pastry-sale

The Assumption Greek Orthodox Church is hosting a Pastry Sale from now until February 8 with pick-ups scheduled for February 27 from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. Nick Kiahtipes took time to come into Castle Country Radio to talk about the fundraising event.

“We were not able to have our festival last year, which is a main fundraising event for us and our parish.  The funds from that festival mainly go to keep the priest employed, to keep him in Price and doing his services here which is a vital part of our community. The funds also go towards maintaining the church, replacing windows, doing the service heating, stuff like that. So really the festival is the mainstay of keeping this church alive and open in this community,” said Kiahtipes. The annual Greek Festival takes place every summer during the month of July. The celebration is held at the church for two days, and consists of Greek food and Greek culture.

The church has been coming up with various ideas to help raise those funds that the church was unable to bring in last year from the festival. “The bake sale is really the first and foremost idea by both the parish council and parishioners. Its kind of what people look forward to every year, of course we look forward to the Greek dancers, and the Greek food but the pastries are kind of the mainstay as well, and so we wanted to be able to offer that to the community this year, while also bringing in funds,” explained Kiahtipes. This event is bringing a variety of pastries to the community at an affordable price.

All orders must be placed by February 8. Items will be made available for pick up on February 27 from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm at the church which is located at 61 South 200 East in Price. There are two different offerings that will be available to order, as Kiahtipes explains, “The first one that we are offering is a $5.00 box of a dozen Koulourakia and those ones are the little twisted cookies and then our second offering is a $20.00 box which includes four Baklava, four Finikia and four Kourambiethes.” Remember, orders must be placed on or before February 8 at 10:00 am. You can place your order by calling or texting Kiahtipes at (435) 650-2459 or email your order to dkiahtipes22@gmail.com.
