Sydney Orth’s potential game-tying three point shot at the buzzer just missed as the Carbon Lady Dinos suffered a 45-42 loss to the South Sevier Rams Thursday night in Price.

Entering the game tied with both South Sevier and Emery in the loss column for the top spot in Region 12, the contest served as a potential tie-breaker for Carbon after topping South Sevier in the league opener back on Jan. 7.

Trailing 26-21 at the end of the first half, Carbon managed to battle back and take a one-point lead into the fourth quarter. The back-and-forth contest would come down to the wire as South Sevier could not put Carbon away.

The Rams captured a 45-42 lead with 25.2 seconds remaining as Presley Chapell scored two of her game-high 19 points off an offensive rebound. Carbon was then granted three opportunities to tie the game as South Sevier missed the front end of a one-and-one free throw three consecutive times.

Orth led Carbon in the setback as she posted a team high 12 points to lead the way offensively in a complete game on both sides of the floor. Makenna Blanc delivered a second option for the Lady Dinos as she finished with 10 points.

Cassie Johnson knocked down three shots from beyond the perimeter help pace the Rams’ offense with 13 points. Leah Torgerson finished with eight points, six of which came from deep.

Thursday’s loss puts Carbon one game behind both South Sevier and Emery in the loss column. With only four games remaining in league play, a Region 12 championship still remains a possibility.

Carbon will now welcome in the Grand Red Devils Saturday afternoon to play a rescheduled contest from one week ago. A win over Grand would give the Lady Dinos a season-series sweep.

Saturday’s contest is scheduled to begin at 1:15 p.m..
