The Carbon Cat Rescue is a non-profit organization in the area whose mission is to give a safe clean place for homeless cats, until they find their forever homes. Castle Country Radio was able to sit down with Co-Founders, Tenisha Anderson and Shaylie Colcore-London to talk about what the organization is all about.
“I saw a lot of stray cats, a lot of kittens, a lot of cats that were sick. I thought if I started a cat rescue down here, I could help spay and neuter all the feral cats, and stop the kitten cycle. So that was really my main target at first, then we grew and we’ve been able to help a lot more with the shelter, and be able to pull cats and find them homes,” said Anderson. She started the Carbon Cat Rescue almost two years ago and over those years has been able to assist in the placement of cats into their new homes.
It was just this fall that the organization applied and was approved to be a non-profit organization, which means they are now eligible to apply for grants to assist with their cause. “We are entire donation based, we’re a 501c3 non-profit now. We got that in October/November and so we are entirely non-profit. We rely on our community donations and what doesn’t come out of the community, comes out of pocket,” said Colcore-London. The organization will start looking for grant funding in the summer as those become available to them.
The type of services Carbon Cat Rescue offers is explained by Colcore-Londan, “All our cats and kittens come fixed, vaccinated, microchipped and dewormed and then we get them homes. So we can help with TNR during the summer when its warm enough to do TNR, which is trap, neuter and return. So take the cats get them fixed, and then return them to where they are at so they can still live their lives but just not reproduce.” Last year the organization was able to conduct about 200 TNRs.
The organization is always looking for donations to help with the cats. “We actually have an Amazon Wish List on our Facebook page that you can look at. But we always need used items as well, gently used items, we can use towels, blankets, bowls, liter boxes, anything that you would use for a cat we could use,” said Colcore-London. The best way to get in contact with Carbon Cat Rescue is by visiting their Facebook page.
