The Carbon Dinos used an 11-0 run in the third quarter to separate from the Emery Spartans and earn a 67-57 win in Price Friday night.

Meeting for the second time this season, the two teams battled throughout all four quarters. Carbon’s four point lead at the end of the first quarter was quickly flipped as Emery climbed even 28-28 at the break. The lead swapped hands several times in the third, before Carbon took the lead for good with a run late in the period.

Senior Preston Condie ended with a game best 22 points and four rebounds to lead the Dinos to their fifth region win in eight tries. Ending an efficient 10-of-17 from the field, Condie did most of his damage inside the paint in a consistent effort.

While Condie delivered throughout four quarters, it was Merrick Morgan who connected on back-to-back three-point makes in the third quarter to give the Dinos the lead for good. Ending the game with 18 points, Morgan finished 4-of-5 from the field and also hit on all eight of his free throw attempts.

The Spartans countered the potent Carbon offense throughout most of the game as Riggs Griffin ended with 13 points, leaving his mark on both ends of the floor. Treven Brazier converted two of the team’s three makes from deep as he ended with 10. Brett Rasmussen also reached double-figures with 10.

Emery matched the intensity and speed of Carbon as Luke Stilson set the pace with an early bucket and multiple rebounds. The Spartans held leads in both the first and third quarters, before slipping into the double-digit deficit.

Both teams had multiple players step up throughout the evening. Carbon’s Caleb Winfree ended with 10 points, doing most of his damage from the free throw line with aggression on the offensive side of the ball. Emery’s Jax Madsen continued his consistent effort with seven points.

Friday’s win moves Carbon to 12-6 overall and 5-3 in Region 12 play. Coupled with a Grand loss to South Sevier, Carbon remains in contention for a division crown if they win both of their remaining two games, and Grand loses out.

The loss for Emery drops their overall record to 2-14 and 0-8 in Region 12. With two games remaining Emery still has an opportunity to secure wins against South Sevier and Grand, two teams they battled in the first meetings.

Both teams will return to the court on Wednesday. For Emery it will mark the final road game of the regular season as they travel to Monroe to face South Sevier. Carbon will play in their final home game against the Richfield Wildcats.
