
The Emery Wrestling team traveled to South Summit High School over the weekend to take part in the Divisional round of the 3A State Wrestling Tournament. The top eight finishers in each weight class would move on to the the championships to be held on February 19 at the Sevier Valley Center on the Snow College South Campus in Richfield.
The Spartans had four wrestlers finish in first place in their weight class and the Spartans also claimed first place overall competing against eight other schools. The Spartans have been a dominant force on the mats this year and look to carry that momentum into the finals.
At the 132 pound weight class Jarin Allred went 3-0 in his matches. Allred who is 27-8 on the season scored 25.5 team points at the tournament. In his first match in the quarterfinal round he won by pin over Brady Ware of Grantsville in a time of 1:11 seconds. In the semifinal round he defeated Karter Frischknecht of Richfield by technical fall. And in the final round he had to face his own team mate Dwain Farley by a 6-0 decision.
At 152 pounds Bryar Meccarillo has been on top of his game this season tearing up his weight class, losing just two matches all year. Meccarillo was also given a first round bye and in the quarterfinals he faced Siaosi Taufatofua from Richfield, winning by technical fall at the 2:43 mark. In the semifinal round, he claimed victory by forfeit over Keston Johnson of South Sevier. Moving on to the first place match, Meccarillo dispatched Ethan Rainer of Grantville by pin with a time of just 50 seconds.
Hayes Dalton wrestled in the 182 pound class and has a season record of 29-3. In the quarterfinal match he faced Dalton Wilcox of Summit Academy by pin in just 40 seconds. In a semifinals match, Dalton would take on Brady Freeman of South Summit, it ended with another quick pin at just 54 seconds. And finally in the first place match-up defeated Tate Willoughby of Delta by an 8-0 decision.
Braden Howard would also claim first place in the 220 weight class. Howard who carries a 22-9 season record, faced Brock Hardinger of South Sevier by pin in just 51 seconds. In his semifinal match against Jordan Williams of South Summit, Howard would come away with a 6-1 decision. And in the first place contest he defeated Xander Lindsey of the host school South Summit by sudden victory in overtime.
