The Price City Youth Council is an organization that if fairly new but with each year the number of students that want to participate grows. Castle Country Radio was able to sit down with Advisor, Terri Tubbs, Youth Council Mayor, Ryan Brady and Youth Council Treasurer, Eli Snow to talk about the council.
The first year the council had 12 participants, followed by 14 the following year to 18 this year. “You know the whole idea was to get the kids involved with the community. Whether it be through service projects or fun activities for the youth and get the kids to understand the process of being in an elected position,” said Tubbs. Students that are interested in applying to the Youth Council must go through an application process in order to be selected.
COVID times have put a bit of a damper on some Youth Council activities but they are still pushing through with upcoming events. “Even with COVID, we have worked around it. We usually do a street dance in the Fall for all the high school kids and we had to cancel it this year and they were so crushed. Because that’s a big thing to get all the youth together in front of the pool area and have a dance. So with all of those complications, these kids have been amazing,” said Tubbs. There are plans underway for some upcoming events set to take place in the community by the Youth Council.
A community Easter Egg Hunt is planned for April as Mayor Brady talks about it, “We’ve planned like a big community Easter Egg Hunt for April 3, it’s the Saturday before Easter. One of the big things as we’re kinda hopefully getting out of this big COVID craziness – hopefully, we’ll be able to get a lot of people together to do something fun for the youth.” Further details on the community Easter Egg Hunt will come at a later date.
The Youth Council is very involved in the Community Garden as well. Treasurer Snow talks about his participation with the garden, “We got a Price City Community Garden going. Our friend Hunter who is on the Youth Council kind of brought up this project with us and told us they needed help planting stuff. So it was really fun, just all of us kind of in the dirt planting trees, planting different vegetables and stuff. Just a bunch of hands-on stuff and that was just really fun seeing how its kind of went from nothing to something because that corner was nothing before.”
