The Carbon Lady Dinos erased a two-game losing skid with a dominating 60-25 win over the San Juan Broncos at home Thursday night.
Setting the tone on the defensive side of the ball from the beginning, the Lady Dinos held San Juan to just 11 field goals throughout the game. The 25 points allowed by Carbon is the fewest the team has given up during region play.
Freshman Madi Orth dropped a season-high 27 points, outscoring the Broncos on her own. Adding to an impressive night, Orth gathered 11 rebounds to record a double-double, while also handing out two assists and snatching two steals.
Amiah Timothy worked as a second option for Orth as she finished with 11 points. Makenna Blanc delivered an all-around performance as she contributed six points, eight rebounds, four assists and five steals.
Holding a 27-10 lead at the end of the first half, the Lady Dinos put the game out of reach with a 20-6 run in the third quarter. The hefty advantage allowed head coach Ted Bianco to give his entire bench playing time in the win.
Emily Palmer was the one bright spot for the Lady Broncos as she led the team with 11 points in the loss. Sadie Brown and Makaeli Begaye each scored five, while Quiana Dishface ended with four.
Thursday’s win moves Carbon to 5-4 in Region 12 play and 14-5 overall. With only game remaining on the schedule, the Lady Dinos will wrap up the regular season at home Friday evening against the Grand Red Devils.
