The Emery Lady Spartans rounded out a Region 12 championship regular season with an offensive explosion, defeating the Grand Red Devils 102-38 Thursday night at the Spartan Center in Castle Dale.

Just two days removed from claiming the division crown, Emery scored 85 points in the first three quarters in a dominating performance. The 102 point effort is the highest scoring output from the Lady Spartans since the team scored 106 against Grand on Feb. 5, 2019.

Sophomore Tatum Tanner led all scorers with 21 points as she continued her recent stellar play in the paint. Tambrie Tuttle chipped in with 15, while three others ended in double-figures.

Needing a win to assure sole possession of first place in the region and the inevitable claim of the No. 1 seed in the state tournament, Emery wasted no time putting Grand in a hole. Leading 27-9 at the end of the first quarter, the Lady Spartans added to their advantage with a 25 point second quarter.

The win marks the sixth straight for Emery since suffering its only blemish in division play to South Sevier on Jan. 26. Since that loss the Lady Spartans have outscored their opponents by an average of 26.5 points per game.

After topping Cedar Valley on Wednesday, Emery ends the regular season with a 13-4 record, including a 9-1 mark in division play.

Emery will now await the release of the Utah High School Activities Association’s final RPI, which is set to drop Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m.. The release of the RPI will give all 3A schools a seed for the upcoming state tournament, which begins next week with the play-in round.
