
The Pinnacle Panthers have struggled of late sitting on a six game losing streak headed into the game against the Merit College Preparatory Academy Knights on Thursday in Springville. The contest went back and forth all night but when the dust settled, the Panthers came away with a 47-44 victory.
Pinnacle has had a rough week going back to Monday, when they fell to the Tintic Miners 74-42 on the road. Despite a 13 point, six rebound effort from Christian Winder the first half was close, with the two teams going into the half tied at 22. In the second half the Panthers were outscored 52-20 with no answers for the Miners defensively.
On Wednesday night, the Panthers faced Panguitch, No.5 in the 1A RPI sitting at 14-4 on the season. Pinnacle was out gunned in the game from the beginning, scoring just nine points in the first half. The struggles continued in the second half for the Panthers as Panguitch walked away with the 74-14 win.
Thursday night, playing in their third game in four days on the road, the Panthers found themselves in a tight contest against the Merit Academy Knights. Scoring 12 in the first quarter and eight in the second, Pinnacle went into the half down by two points 22-20. They would battle back in the third taking a three point lead into the fourth, maintaining that edge for the win.
Winder once again led the way with a double-double, scoring 24 points and gathering up 10 rebounds. Landen Hardy added in 16 points to go with his eight rebounds and Anthony Shumway dropped in five while pulling down seven boards.
The Panthers have two away games to start off next week, at Wendover on Monday and at Tabiona on Tuesday. The regular season comes to and end on Friday the 19 when they travel to Green River to take on the Pirates.
