A slow start plagued the Carbon Dinos as they ended the regular season with a 60-49 loss to the San Juan Broncos Friday night in Blanding.

Trailing 20-10 at the end of the first quarter, the Dinos managed to chop the deficit down to three on multiple occasions. Each time Carbon got within striking distance the Broncos had an answer between Nathan Grover and Cooper Black.

Carbon Senior Preston Condie scored a game-high 23 points to lead the Dinos in the regular season finale. Caleb Winfree chipped with 10 points, while Keenan Hatch hit the team’s only two three-point makes for eight points.

Grover delivered for the Broncos in the post as he paced the San Juan offense with 21 points. Black worked as a perfect compliment as he finished with 14.

The majority of the game was played inside 19-feet as the two teams combined for just five makes from the three-point line.

Friday’s win for San Juan places the Broncos second in the final Region 12 standings with a league record of 7-3. Grand clinched the division crown with a victory over Emery, giving them a one game cushion for the league title.

The Dinos end the regular season with a 5-5 Region 12 record, giving them the No. 8 seed in the final RPI. Finishing inside the top eight, the Dinos will play host to the No.9 ranked North Sanpete Hawks in the second round of the state tournament this Friday.
