
The final Utah High School Activities Association’s RPI rankings for the 3A girl’s basketball season were released Saturday morning, setting the stage for the State Championship Tournament, which will begin Wednesday night.
Despite finishing second to the Emery Lady Spartans in Region 12, the South Sevier Rams were awarded the No. 1 seed in the tournament. Emery, who finished 9-1 in Region 12 play and 13-4 overall, came in at No. 2. Grantsville, Carbon and Richfield rounded out the top five.
Each of the 19 teams in the classification now have their ranking for the season-ending tournament. Seeds 1-through-13 receive a first round bye and advance to the second round on Saturday.
The field of 19 will be cut to 16 as seeds 14-through-19 will play in the opening round beginning Wednesday, at the higher seed’s home site:
* No. 14 Juab VS No. 19 Maeser Prep- Winner plays No. 3 Grantsville.
* No. 15 ALA VS No. 18 Providence Hall- Winner plays No. 2 Emery. (On KOAL 107.3 FM and 750 AM)
* No. 16 North Sanpete VS No. 17 Grand- Winner plays No. 1 South Sevier.
The second round of the 3A State Tournament will begin Saturday afternoon at the home sites of the higher seeds. The field of 16 will be cut in half to eight:
* No. 4 Carbon VS No. 13 Summit Academy- 5:30 p.m. (On KRPX 95.3 The Peak)
* No. 5 Richfield VS No. 12 South Summit- 1:00 p.m.
* No. 1 South Sevier VS North Sanpete/Grand- 1:00 p.m.
* No. 8 Morgan VS No. 9 Manti- 7:00 p.m.
* No. 2 Emery VS ALA/Providence Hall- 1:00 p.m. (On KOAL 107.3 FM and 750 AM)
* No. 7 Delta VS No. 10 Union- 1:00 p.m.
* No. 3 Grantsville VS Juab/Maeser Prep- 1:00 p.m.
* No. 6 Judge Memorial VS No. 11 San Juan- 1:00 p.m.
The eight remaining teams will then travel to the Sevier Valley Center in Richfield, where the State Champion will be determined over the course of three days between Feb. 25 and Feb. 27. At this stage in the tournament each team is guaranteed at least two games, with a consolation bracket being introduced.
