Ross Edward Butler our beloved Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather and friend passed away March 6, 2021 at Ashford Assisted Living in Springville, Utah with his Son Greg, and Daughter in law Lori at his side.

Ross was born February 26, 1930 in Susanville, California the second son of Ray Lewis and Leona Johnson Butler.

He attended schools in Susanville, graduating from Lassen Union High School.  He also attended Gunsmithing School at Lassen Jr. College, and graduated with a Forestry Degree from Utah State University.

Ross met his sweetheart Margaret Ann Mitchell in the 4th grade.  They were married February 15, 1953 in Susanville. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple for time and eternity.  Their love is an example of dedication, service, and commitment.  To this union two sons were born, Brett and Gregory.  His family was blessed to live, and work together in the everlasting hills of Southern Utah, while Ross was employed by the US Forest Service.  Having lived at Ranger stations in Duck Creek, Pine Valley, and Fish Lake.  They enjoyed their homes in Cedar City, St. George, Richfield, and Price Utah.  As the family grew Ross delighted in his new “daughters” and was overjoyed to welcome five Grandchildren and one Great Grandchild. Family was his number one priority and source of his greatest satisfaction in life.

A lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- day Saints, Ross served in many callings, stake missionary, seventy, bishopric member, high councilor, and for many years as ward clerk.  He was a dedicated home teacher, and ministering brother, seeking to meet the needs of each person he served.  His Christ like love, and service, are a great example.

Ross loves his country.  He served in the U.S. Navy as a submariner.  Spending time in the Pacific Theater during the Korean Conflict. His dedicated service, and patriotism, teach us all to appreciate the freedoms we enjoy.

He had many hobbies and interests. Fly fishing since childhood, shooting, reloading, and hunting.  He became an amateur radio operator at the encouragement of his oldest son.  This hobby brought many hours of enjoyable conversations, opportunities for service, and many new friends.

He is survived by his sons, Brett (Jenae) Butler, Logan, Utah and Gregory (Lori) Butler, Sandy, Utah; grandchildren, Ian (Teagan), Makenzie (Tanner), Connor (Sarah), Anna and Ryan and Great Grandson Taggert Ross Prestwich; brother in law, John Mitchell; sisters in law, Evelyn Gallagher, Mary Lynn Reed, Olivia Mitchell, Beverly Butler, and many nieces and nephews whom he loved.

We are so happy for the joyous reunion he is having with his sweetheart Margaret, family members, and loved ones.

Special thanks to all those who have provided loving care for Ross in his declining years.  Your support and love have been a great blessing to us.
