There are some fun and exciting things happening at the United Way of Eastern Utah that Castle Country Radio had to get Executive Director, Megan Cummings in to the studio to speak about the Board of Directors, their scholarship program and assistance with income tax filing.

Right now, the organization is looking for new members to occupy seats on the Board of Directors. “So our Board of Directors sets the tone, sets the priorities, they oversee me. They help ensure the financial stability of the organization, policy and procedures all of that kind of thing, so they help direct the organization. We can have a max of 15 board members, we’ve got 14 right now, a couple our routing off so we are looking for three or four new board members,” stated Cummings. Interested individuals who are invested in their community can find the Board of Directors application on the organization’s website at https://www.uweu.org/ Applications will need to be received by May 1 as that is when the organization will start to review the applications.

Speaking of applications, the organization is currently accepting scholarship applications from high school seniors who are interested in financial assistance to further their education after high school. “High school seniors at Carbon, Emery, Green River and Pinnacle can apply for this scholarship. We’re giving off a few scholarships, depending on how many applicants we get, so it’s not just one you are competing for. Any high school seniors who are listening go to the website again, there’s a tab right at the top for youth scholarships. It’s not an enormous application. I’ve only gotten one applicant so far, so I want some more. We want to give you some money to help with your first year of college,” explained Cummings. The deadline to apply for the scholarship is April 12. Any high school seniors who may have further questions about the United Way of Eastern Utah Scholarship can contact the office at (435) 637-8911.

Its that time for many folks to file their yearly taxes and United Way of Eastern Utah can assist low-income individuals with the preparation. “So United Way supports this organization called taxhelpUT.org, check it out on the website and they use to do in-person appointments, they tell you exactly what to bring, now its all virtual but they’ll tell you which documents you need. This is for folks who make up to a certain income level so the information is on the website as well and its not always easy to prepare your taxes but this takes a lot of the pain out of it,” said Cummings.
