four-corners

Four Corners Community Behavioral Health is a local agency that offers highly responsive and effective mental health and substance abuse services to the residents and communities of Carbon, Emery and Grand Counties. Castle Country Radio was able to sit down with Suicide Prevention Coordinator, Cacilia Jensen to talk about the services they offer and about suicide prevention.

“So Four Corners Behavioral Health is the local behavioral health authority we cover Carbon, Emery and Grand County. Some of the services that we provide are one-on-one individual therapy, we provide group therapy, we have case management services for people who may be needing help finding a job or seeking local resources. We also have peer recovery, peer support recovery individuals who help people with substance use get and maintain their recovery,” stated Jensen. They provide a wide array of services that have to deal with one’s mental wellbeing.

This has been a difficult year for many in the area because of the lack of social interaction due to the COVID pandemic so many individuals may be in mental destress. “So we just really wanted to come on and let people know that there are things that you can do to either help yourself if you are struggling or help somebody else who might believe is struggling. So there a really great campaign out there called https://www.bethe1to.com/ and it has tangible steps of what you can do to help somebody that you might think is struggling or yourself,” said Jensen. This is a great website that outlines five steps to take when helping someone who is having issues with their mental wellbeing.

The first step is to Ask. Ask them if they are thinking about suicide which communicates that you’re open to speaking about suicide in a non-judgmental and supportive way. “The next step is just to Be There. Be there for them. Be an active listener. The third step is Keep them Safe. The next step is Help Them Connect. Connect with help if they need it, professional help and then that’s also part of the last step is Follow-up. Following up with them, saying hey I know we talked about how you were feeling last week, make sure that you are doing ok. That actually is, I can’t stress this step enough, this is one of the most important steps to do,” said Jensen.
