The Emery Spartans softball team hit the diamond for the first time this season, and while they needed a few innings to knock off the rust it didn’t take them long to find offense exploding for 12 runs in the sixth and claiming their first victory of the season on Tuesday at home against Beaver, 22-10.

The Lady Spartans, who had their season cut short last year just three games in, were anxious and ready to take to the field to begin the 2021 campaign.

The game started out quietly for both teams with Beaver scoring the only run through the first three innings. Emery would find some offense in the bottom of the third scoring five. The fireworks for the Spartans came in the bottom of the sixth inning scoring 12 runs and carrying a 16 run lead into the seventh inning.

The Spartans were led in the contest by Cambrie Jensen. Cambrie had five RBI’s on two home runs in just three at bats, she also pitched three innings giving up one run on two hits striking out three. Braliln Wilde and Tylee Norton each had three RBI’s, with each of them adding a home run as well. Brynlei Luke added a home run with two RBI’s, while four other players had at least one RBI in the game.

Madi Robinson was handed the loss for Beaver, giving up 12 runs on 10 hits all earned. Sadie Bradshaw had three RBI’s on one hit registering the only home run in the contest for Beaver.

Emery now has back to back home games on Thursday and Friday. First up they will face Uintah from Vernal. Going back to the 2019 season Uintah fell to Mountain Crest in the quarterfinals of the 4A State Championship Tournament. The first pitch is set to be thrown at 3:30.

Then on Friday they will face the Delta Rabbits. Delta finished the 2019 season in the opening round of the 3A State Championship Tournament by Grand. Emery did face off against Delta in the final game of the season last year beating the Rabbits 18-7. This game is also set to begin at 3:30.
