The USU Easter Prehistoric Museum is preparing for their 60th year celebration which is going to be full of various activities and events. Castle Country Radio was able to speak with Director, Dr. Tim Riley about the plans the museum has to celebrate.
“So we’re actually looking forward to celebrating the 60th even under these limited circumstances. Some of the details in terms of what events and when are still a little up in the air as we move forward. But we’re planning on doing a couple of cool things we’re going to have some public events, some lectures in the Fall and we’ll keep you guys abreast of that as those develop,” said Dr. Riley. This summer the museum is also going to make the temporary exhibit in the middle, a retrospect of the history of the museum. This will include some items that have never been shown before that have been in the vault for safe keeping.
The Charlie Johnston art exhibit that is currently on display is coming to an end at the end of March so if you have had plans to visit the show you must do so before March 27. “Charlie Johnston a great artist who unfortunately passed away last July. His exhibit was up before we closed for COVID and we decided to extend it till March 27. So you still got about a couple of weeks left to go visit. It’s really incredible mostly paintings, but also some sepia and other ink scapes, as well as some three dimensional art work he’s done across his life,” stated Dr. Riley. The painting in the show are natural landscapes from around the Utah and Alaska areas, plus they are available for purchase.
In place of the Johnston art show will be the annual Community Art Show. “We’re excited to bring our Annual Community Art Show, it’s a little bit later this year and that was somewhat due to the COVID restrictions. But this art show we do every year it allows our local talented community to come out and strut their stuff. If you’re a photographer, a sculptor, a wood burner, a painter any sort of visual art is welcomed to submit to the museum,” explained Dr. Riley. Any interested artists/photographers can contact the museum at (435) 613-5060 for further details, rules and other important information about the Community Art Show.
