The Carbon School District took time to shine a spotlight on Sally Mauro Elementary this week and Castle Country Radio spoke over the telephone with Principal Blake Allen to talk about math facts and Easter Egg hunt.

There has been a huge emphasis on math facts for the last two years at the school and they are seeing greet improvement across the board. “Math facts so that’s one of our big pushes that we want the students to have mastered their math facts before they get to basically the next level. We want in first grade, in kindergarten, we want them to get their math facts before they move on to the next grade. This will help them to be more fluent and basically when they jump to the junior high level they will know their math facts, they will know addition all the way up to division,” said Principal Allen. Officials at the junior high have seen improvements from the students coming in from Sally Mauro over the last few years.

The school’s PTA is going to host an Eastern Egg Hunt activity. “So our Easter Egg Hunt, everything was planned by our PTA. We have an amazing, wonderful PTA that do a lot of this stuff so it takes it off of our plate, that they can take control over it. But yes, they’ve set up a thing where community members in Helper can bring in the plastic Easter eggs,” said Principal Allen. The PTA then gathers the eggs together to then put candy and surprises inside for the big event. Any residents in Helper that would like to donate towards the cause can take their plastic eggs to the office at the school. Parents will receive further details on the event as it is sent home with students at a later time.
