The Carbon Lady Dinos opened the 2021 season with a bang as they comfortably defeated both Pine View and Hurricane Thursday night in St. George.

Opening the afternoon against Pine View, the Lady Dinos put up nine runs in the second inning to pull away in an eventual 20-5 win.

The high scoring output was started in the opening frame as senior Lyndsey Madrigal knocked a solo home run. Carbon blew the game open with a devastating run in the following inning.

Brook Moosman, Gianna Bruno, Amya Prettyman, Stevie Oman and Haven Byerly all logged RBIs as the Lady Dinos scored nine runs to extend the small lead to 10. The offensive production carried over to the next three innings as Carbon scored four, two and four runs respectively to close out the game.

Byerley drove in five runs on three hits to lead the offensive explosion. As a team the Lady Dinos gathered 16 hits compared to six from Pine View.

Brooke Moosman pitched all five innings Carbon, allowing just four earned runs and one walk. It took just 84 pitches to notch the complete game win.

After breezing past Pine View the Lady Dinos returned to the field later in the evening as they secured their second win of the evening, this time defeating Hurricane 9-4.

Faced with a 2-1 deficit at the end of the first inning, Carbon took the lead for good with a three-run third frame. Hurricane’s offense was kept off balance by a dynamic performance from Tenley Madsen.

Madsen fanned seven batters, while only allowing six hits and four earned runs during the complete-game gem. Adding to the impressive outing was a 61-percent strike ratio on 125 pitches.

Byerley and Madrigal were once again leaders in the box for Carbon as both brought in two runs on a combined four hits.

Carbon was scheduled to return to the field Friday morning for a stretch of games throughout the weekend in St. George. After racing out to an 8-1 lead over Salem Hills to game was stopped due to snow.
