The Carbon track and field teams hosted the Farm Bureau Invitational on Friday at the Carbon High School Track. Both teams had very strong showings with the girls claiming the top spot and the boys taking third in their classification.
Ryker Childs had a big day on the boys side for the Dinos claiming two first place finishes and one second place finish.
Childs claimed the top spot in the 100 meters with a time of 11.53 finishing just ahead of Landon Tolbert of Uintah. Another first place finish in the 300 meter hurdles came with a time of 41.71, almost a second ahead of Branon Torgerson of Ducshesne who ended with a time of 42.66. And then in the long jump he claimed second just behind Trey Briggs of Uintah.
On the girls side Haylee Prescott claimed first place over Morgan Lewis of Grand in the high jump. The team of Eminie Elliot, Makenna Blanc, Haylee Prescott and Lyndee Mower took the victory with a time of 52.13 a full two seconds ahead of Uintah’s 54.37 in the 4×100 meters.
In the 3200 meters Sophia Taylor claimed second place behind Eden Hall of Juab. Impressively the Dinos also claimed spots three through five with Ambree Jones Erin Stomness and Ellie Hanson taking the next three spots.
“It was just an amazing display from these kids, I was super impressed with the way our girls responded,we had some really good things with that going on, and they were really an amazing group as we went through”, Coach Jimmy Jewkes stated in a recent interview on Drive Time Sports. “I was really impressed with my guy’s team as a collective, the boy’s team really surprised me, our boys team is proving that they’re a team to be reckoned with in this region.”
Up next Carbon will travel to Union High School in Roosevelt on Saturday for the Strata Invitational. They will host one more home meet on April 30, when they hold the Eastern Utah Championships.
