The Carbon Senior Center has been closed for activities due to the COVID pandemic and officials are excited to announce that they will be re-opening their doors on March 29. Castle Country Radio was able to sit down with Director, Robbie Jensen to talk about the centers re-opening.

“We are excited to let everybody know that our senior centers will be re-opening beginning this Monday, March 29. Carbon County Senior Center will be open for most of our activities, as well as appointments currently for the busses. So meals will be there to serve meals and happy to have people back in the centers,” stated Jensen. Officials are looking forward to having local seniors citizens back inside the centers in both Carbon and East Carbon as they have been vacant since the pandemic started.

There will still be some restrictions at the center as Jensen explains, “For those that are going to be using the bus for appointments we would ask that anyone riding the bus wear a mask. Then we’re also asking those that attend the center for activities and everything to wear a mask into the centers, once you get to your destination, whether that be to lunch or one of the activity groups. Once you’re there and social distance you can remove your mask.” The Carbon Senior Center is located at 418 South Fairgrounds Road in Price and the East Carbon Center is located at 451 Denver Avenue in East Carbon.

Right now, the busses will have a limited schedule until April 12. “Monday until April 12 it will be fore appointment pick-ups only. That means for doctor appointments, dentist appointments, doctor visit those kinds of things and then starting April 12, when we get back to our normal schedule then we can go back through and the bus will pick up those that want to come to the center to eat,” stated Jensen. If you are in need of the busing services or would like more information can contact the Carbon Senior Center at (435) 636-3202.

Curb side meals will only be available till April 9 and then afterwards the busses will be running. Those that wish to have mobile meals will have to qualify again. “So there will be a couple of changes for Meals on Wheels. We are back to you have to qualify to be on mobile meals since the majority of this population which is way we can open back up has been vaccinated and then those restrictions that were lifted will be back in place so they will have to qualify for Meals on Wheels again,” said Jensen.
