Patsy Lee Hansen Greenhalgh Johnson, 83, passed away peacefully March 24, 2021 at her home in Cleveland.

She was born on a snowy day, April 18, 1937, to Wanda Christine and LeGrand Hansen at her grandmother’s home in Moroni, Utah. Wanda and LeGrand divorced when Patsy was an infant. Wanda married James Eldon Greenhalgh who took Patsy into his arms and raised her as his own.

As a child, Patsy suffered from scarlet fever and polio. She proved a true survivor and never let these illnesses get her down. At fifteen years old, Patsy married Olin Holt and they had a daughter, Peggy. When things didn’t work out with Olin Patsy showed her strength again by building a career. She became a beautician and worked at the Hotel Utah where she had a star-studded clientele from movie stars to popular music artists.

She met David William Johnson. They married on July 21, 1962, and together raised Peggy, Christine, and Steven. Patsy and Dave were later sealed in the Manti, Utah Temple.

All who knew Patsy knew her love of fabric and sewing. She loved dressing up little girls and used to recall the time she counted the number of dresses she had made for Peggy. She was amazed when the count was 23 dresses. Patsy later started to make porcelain dolls so she could dress them. Her creativity did not stop there. She loved to knit, crochet, and piece quilts.

Patsy loved the outdoors and took up going fishing with Dave when she discovered she could read a book or do handwork while waiting for the fish to bite. Until their health prohibited it, Patsy and Dave spent their summers camping. Dave would enjoy nature and she would work on quilting projects to put together puzzles.

Patsy loved her 6 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. She looked forward to visits from any of them, and would spend time watching them play, listen to their stories, or tell them her own. She also loved visits from her friends Michelle and Anne.

She is survived by her husband, David William Johnson of Cleveland, UT; daughter Christine (Dan) Hancock of Helper, UT; grandchildren: Jeremy (Suzanne) Szugye of Spring, TX, Kyle Szugye, Brandon (Lybbie) Craig of Tooele, UT, Stephanie Craig of Saratoga Springs, UT, Trevor (Heather) Craig of Ralston, WY, and Hadleigh (Kyle) Roberts of Salt Lake City, UT; siblings: Kathleen Crook of Santaquin, UT, Veldon (Don) Hancock of Tooele, UT, Leila (Larry) Houser of Payson, UT, Boyd (Nancy) Greenhalgh of Price, UT, Susan (Pete) Madsen of Delta, UT, Greg (Corey) Hansen of Spring City, UT, Leo Hansen of Overton, NV; uncle Eugene (Jane) Jensen of Grantsville, UT.

Preceded in death by her son, Steven William Johnson, daughter Peggy Lee Johnson, parents Wanda and James (Chick) Greenhalgh, LeGrand (Tex) and Edith Hansen, sister and brother-in-law Tonya and Thomas Pirtle, and brothers-in-law James Crook and Louis Rintoul.

The family would like to express love and gratitude to Ashley and Audrey from Rocky Mountain Home Care and Hospice for their help in caring for Mom and Grandma over the last 10 months.

A celebration of Patsy’s life will be Tuesday, March 30, 2021, 12:00 noon at the Cleveland Ward. Please help celebrate Patsy’s life by remembering children without toys, veterans without families, and neighbors without a friend.  Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home where friends are welcome to share memories online at www.mitchellfuneralhome.net
