The Carbon lady Dino track and field team continued their dominant season taking second place at the Strata Invitational at Union High School last Friday. The girls team finished behind host school Union. Uintah , Juan Diego and Maeser Preparatory would round out the top five. For the men, they would finish behind Tabiona in seventh place. Union would claim first with Monticello, Duchesne, Uintah and Juan Diego making up the top five.
For the boys Kobe Cruz would claim a fifth place finish in the 3200 meters with a time of 10:28.91. Carbon would also take a fifth place finish in the 4×400 relay turning in a time of 3:59.84. Bradley Wood claimed two top five finishes with a fourth place in the shot put and fifth in discus. And Bowden Robinson would claim fifth place in the javelin.
Friday belonged to the girls team, with five first place finishes they put forth a great showing. Eminie Elliot would have a huge day for the Dinos. With a first place finish in the 100 meter hurdles, a fourth place finish in the long jump, she also was part of the first place 4×100 relay team along with Mackenna Blanc, Lyndee Mower and Hayley Prescott. Prescott also claimed fifth in the 100 meters right before team mate Lyndee Mower. Mower, Prescott, Elliot and Blanc would take second place in the sprint medley behind Union with a time of 4:32.24. Kayla Lee would place third in the high jump.
The distance runners had a big day as well Beverly Lancaster claimed first place in the 1600 meters with a time of 5:51.72, Sophia Taylor finished in third and Erin Stromness in fourth. Lancaster also earned a second place finish in the 800, registering a time of 2:40.14. Dino runners went one, two and three in the 3200 meters, Sophia Taylor claimed the top spot with a time of 13:02.27, Ambree Jones was right behind her at 13:03.93, and Stromness finished with a time of 13:05.79.
Carbon track and field will enjoy Spring Break and won’t get back to it until April 9 in Blanding at San Juan.
