Carbon High School senior Makenna Blanc and freshman Madi Orth both earned 3A All-State second team selections, while junior guard Janzie Jensen received an honorable mention.

One of just two seniors on this year’s team, Blanc averaged 11 points, five rebounds, two steals and two assists per game.

An emotional leader on a young team, Blanc’s experience and tenacity was contagious on both ends of the floor. She scored a season-high 23 points in a dominating win over South Summit on Dec. 15. The offensive explosion was one of 13 occasions she crossed the double-digit plateau.

Blanc was also a tone setter defensively for Carbon as she led the team in steals with 2.5 per game. Five times she recorded five or more steals in a game, including a season best seven against Grantsville on Dec. 14.

Despite being a freshman Madi Orth had no problems adjusting to the varsity level as she averaged a team-high 11.8 points per game. Orth’s impact was felt on both sides of the floor as she also averaged six rebounds, two blocks and two steals.

Playing in all 24 games for Carbon, Orth scored her season best 27 points on 12-18 shooting against San Juan in a region contest on Feb. 11. She would go on to average 12.5 points per game in four state tournament tilts.

Orth is one of just two freshman to earn a 3A All-State selection. The other was Morgan’s Alyvia Jaffa who was named to the All-State third team.

Jensen’s honorable mention comes following a standout season where she averaged 6.9 points, four assists and two steals per game. Serving as a backup during her sophomore campaign, Jensen became a first year starter at the varsity level on a very young Carbon team this past season.

Carbon completed the season with a record of 17-7 overall and 6-4 in Region 12 play. After defeating Summit Academy and Richfield in the state tournament, Carbon suffered a loss to the eventual state champion Morgan Trojans.
