Coming off a victory last Thursday in Monroe over South Sevier, the Spartan soccer team took to the road on Monday traveling to Vernal to take on the Uintah Utes. Playing to a 1-1 tie at the half the Utes would come on strong in the second half scoring three unanswered goals and taking the 4-1 win.

Uintah has a 3-4 record playing out of Region 5 in the 4A class. The Utes and Spartans have not faced off recently but have played a common opponent in the Union Cougars. Uintah in their first contest of the season shutout the Cougars 4-0 and Emery defeated Union 4-3 just three days later.

Jesus Ayulla would score the lone goal for the Spartans in the first half. Ayulla has put three into the back of the net this season.

The Utes put up one goal in the first half and three in the second. Derek Mansfield, Rhett Christophersen, Kael Calder and Jorge Angulo each scored a goal for the Utes in the win.

The Spartans now have a 3-6 overall record and a 2-3 region record.

They have a road match scheduled with San Juan on Thursday and will return home on Monday April 5 for a match-up with the North Sanpete Hawks.

The game with the Hawks is slated to begin at 3:30.
