The Spartans softball team welcomed the Manti Templars to Castle Dale on Wednesday. The Templars got off to a quick start scoring eight runs in the first four innings and Emery couldn’t match Manti’s offensive intensity falling 8-2 in the contest.
Manti currently sits at 8-0 and is in second place in region 14. With wins over teams like Carbon (9-1) and 5A Springville (7-2) as well as tother teams from upper classifications, the Templars are a team that is sure to be in the mix come playoff time.
The Spartans would get on the board first off an Arilynn Allred home run in the bottom of the first inning, her second of the year. Emery would score once more in the bottom of the third inning off a Madison Childs home run to left field.
Tiffany Hermansen was nearly unhittable for the Templars. Hermansen collected the complete game victory giving up just three hits and two earned runs, while striking out 15 in the contest.
For the Spartans it was Cambrie Jensen who would get the start and the loss going three innings giving up five hits and three runs while striking out two. Madison Childs took over pitching duties going four, giving up four earned runs on six hits while striking out four. The Spartans also committed four errors in the game giving up runs on two of them as well as surrendering two home runs to the Templars.
Emery now holds a 7-4-1 record on the season and will head into their Spring Break. They won’t be on the field again until April 13 when South Sevier comes to town, game time for that contest is set for 3:30.
They then jump into the bulk of their region schedule until April 30 when Duchesne comes to Castle Dale. One more non-conference match-up with Gunnison Valley on May 3 before the playoffs will begin.
