Dan H. Hunter, peacefully passed away at his daughter’s home in Ferron on April 10, 2021.

Dan was born Sept. 26, 1930 in Ferron, Utah, two blocks away from where he passed.

He was the second of five children born to Ernest and Edna Hunter. His mother passed away when Dan was only 10 years old and so he learned at a very young age to be self-sufficient.

Dan was a very hard worker with a very brilliant mind. He learned all that he could to become successful in whatever he put his mind to in life.  He joined the Air Force before finishing high school and upon completion of his military service he returned home and begged the principal to let him finish his high school education.  He later graduated from Utah State University with a degree in Economics.  Dan valued education and any type of learning. Under the guidance of his uncle, Dan learned about mining claims, prospecting and business. Dan became very successful in his business ventures.

Dan married Lloyal Moffitt on April 14,1956 in Ely, Nevada and later solemnized their marriage in the Salt Lake temple on June 29, 1965.  Dan loved his family. He and his wife Lloyal had 4 children and he tried to give them every opportunity to have a good life. Dan and Lloyal have nine grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren, all of whom they loved very much.

Everyone has fond memories of Easter outings on the desert, time spent at their Joe’s Valley cabin, holidays and getting together for family parties.  Each grandchild had the opportunity to spend a week alone with Grandma and Grandpa which made each one feel special. Dan loved cookies, candies and ice cream but especially glazed donuts from Food Ranch and was always eager to share. There was always room for grandchildren at Grandpa and Grandma’s house and it was a great place to stay while attending college or just stopping in during school lunch.  He had a great sense of humor and his stories, jokes and laugh will be missed by all.

Dan was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served faithfully in many callings. Dan found solace and peace in listening to church hymns. Even in his last hours, he requested to listen to the music that brought him comfort.

When it became very difficult to live on his own, he was able to move in with his daughter Bobbi and her husband Vance Brown. Although this wasn’t easy for a man of great independence, he humbly accepted their angelic care, and got to spend precious moments with them in the last few months of his life.

Dan is survived by his children: Leslie Warburton, Bobbi (Vance) Brown, Michael (Shayna) Hunter.

Dan is preceded in death by his wife, Lloyal Elouise Moffitt; his son, Douglas Dan Hunter; and his great-grandson, Devin Vance Carter.

The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to the nurses, home health workers, and anyone else who helped care for Dan.
