The USU Eastern Eagles were on the road Friday and Saturday to take on the Utah State University Aggies in Smithfield. Early in March they faced off with USU Eastern getting the four game sweep, they would come close to repeating that feat dropping on game to the Aggies and taking the weekend series 3-1.
The Eagles have a 21-17 record this season going 4-11 in conference play.
Below is a recap of the weekend’s games:
Game 1
7 to 8 Loss
Utah State Eastern Drops Game To USU Aggies After Late Score.
Despite the loss, Utah State Eastern did collect 12 hits in the high-scoring affair. Unfortunately, USU Aggies had 11 hits on the way to victory.
Kody Nelson took the loss for Utah State Eastern. The pitcher went one inning, allowing three runs on four hits, striking out one and walking one.
Kaden Stewart started the game for Utah State Eastern. The righty allowed three hits and three runs over three innings, striking out six
Utah State Eastern racked up 12 hits. Ryder Peterson and Max Nichols each racked up multiple hits for Utah State Eastern. Peterson went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Utah State Eastern in hits.
Game 2
8 to 7 WIn
Utah State Eastern took the lead late and defeated USU Aggies 8-7 on Friday. The game was tied at seven with Utah State Eastern batting in the top of the seventh when Ty Barker singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run.
Utah State Eastern earned the victory despite allowing USU Aggies to score four runs in the first inning. USU Aggies’s big inning was driven by a single by Phil Zahn and a home run by Isaiah Norman.
Utah State Eastern evened things up at seven in the top of the sixth inning when Tadon Burbank singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run.Mason Nielson was the winning pitcher for Utah State Eastern. The pitcher went four innings, allowing zero runs on three hits, striking out three and walking one.
Dylan Sanchez led Utah State Eastern with two hits in three at bats. .
Game 3
6 to 1 Win
Utah State Eastern opened up scoring in the second inning, when Gabe Childs singled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run. Utah State Eastern tallied three runs in the sixth inning. Utah State Eastern offense in the inning was led by Skiler Hohrein and Dylan Sanchez, all knocking in runs in the inning.
Gabe Lundbeck got the win for Utah State Eastern. The righthander lasted seven innings, allowing one hit and one run while striking out seven.
Utah State Eastern smacked one home run on the day. Sanchez had a dinger in the sixth inning.
Dylan Rodriguez, Childs, Hohrein, Ryder Peterson, Sanchez, and Ethan Udy each managed one hit to lead Utah State Eastern. Utah State Eastern tore up the base paths, as three players stole at least two bases. Udy led the way with two.
Game 4
16 to 1 Win
Utah State Eastern had everything working on Saturday, winning big over USU Aggies 16-1 Utah State Eastern got on the board in the first inning when Dylan Rodriguez drew a walk, scoring one run. Utah State Eastern notched seven runs in the third inning.
The offensive firepower by Utah State Eastern was led by Parker Applegate, Rodriguez, Easton Gordon, Korbet Pope, and Karter Pope, all sending runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.
Max Nichols pitched Utah State Eastern to victory. The pitcher allowed two hits and zero runs over two innings, striking out two and walking zero. Jacob Adair, Ethan Wilson, and Jordan Brown all put in work in relief out of the bullpen, steering their team towards the victory.
The Eagles will be home starting on Thursday as they welcome in the Colorado Northwestern Community College Spartans. Game time on Thursday will be 3 pm at Carlson-Colosimo Field. Friday’s double header will start at noon and Saturday’s game will start at 11 am.
