Huntington City residents have been busily working on their yards now that the spring weather is bringing warmer temperatures to the area. Castle Country Radio was able to speak over the telephone with Mayor Leonard Norton about city clean up, watering and the Heritage Days Celebration.

Residents that have been working on cleaning up their yards and will be happy to know that the city is offering free pickup services. “Its that time of year where we’re getting out and getting our yards clean, getting our city cleaned up. You know we have it for the month of April and part of May, you trim your bushes and trees and you put them out by the curb and we’ll come around and pick them up for you to haul them off. We just encourage everybody to get out and get their yard looking nice after this long dry winter,” stated Mayor Norton. Officials from the city will make the rounds in the neighborhoods to pick up items. Any questions about this service contact the city office at (435) 687-2436.

With a dry winter, many folks are wondering if there is going to be water restrictions set in place this summer. “Right now, we’re just encouraging all our citizens to be smart with your watering. If you don’t need to water, don’t water. It’s going to be a bleak year, right now we don’t have restrictions but I’m afraid before the year is out, we’ll have restrictions on watering because it’s just not the snowpack in the mountains we need to supply us this year like we’ve had in the past,” said Mayor Norton. If restrictions are enforced the city will notify its residents with some sort of letter or flyer.

Plans are underway for the Heritage Days Celebration set to take place in July. “So it’s going to start July 1st through the 3rd the fourth of the July is on the 4th this year, our celebration will be 1st through the 3rd which is a Saturday. Most of the celebration will be on Saturday. It will be a fun time for those three days. So come on out, let’s get some celebration going,” said Mayor Norton. There will be a parade, concerts, horseshoe and corn hole tournaments, vendors, games for the kids and food. Further details about the celebration will be shared closer to the event.
