The Emery Spartan baseball team watched their perfect region record slip away on Tuesday in Monroe with a 14-5 loss to the South Sevier Rams. The Spartans couldn’t manufacture enough scoring to keep up with the Rams who collected 14 runs on 15 hits.
The Spartans sit at 9-3 overall and in the No. 7 spot in the RPI. The Spartans have season sweeps of Grand and San Juan so far this season and have just a handful of games left until the first round of the playoffs which are fast approaching in May.
The Rams would jump out to an early first inning lead and the Spartans wouldn’t get on the board until the top of the second adding one. The Rams would do the majority of their damage in the bottom of the sixth inning scoring six runs and pushing the score to 9-2. The only multiple run inning the Spartans would have was the fourth as they were able to cut South Sevier’s lead to four runs, however the Rams added a total of five more runs in the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings taking the 14-5 win.
Tyler Stilson collected three RBIs on two hits, Oakley Alton and Luke Stilson would each register one RBI.
On the mound, Emery would use four pitchers with Trevin Wakefield getting the start and the loss going 2 1/3 innings giving up eight earned runs on five hits. Luke Stilson went 2 2/3 surrendering six runs (five earned) on 10 hits and Jax Madsen finished the game for the Spartans giving up no runs or hits.
The Spartans will look to get back in the win column on Thursday on the road against Union. They will return home on Friday to take on South Sevier once again. Game time is set for 3:30.
