The Dinos track and field team participated in the Unitah Invitational in Vernal on Saturday. The ladies once again came out on top and the men claimed the second spot. The track and field season is slowly winding down with just four meets left until the Region 12 Championships that will take place on May 12-13 in Price.

The girls team has consistently finished in the top spots in meets this season. At the Uintah, they would compile 172 points well ahead of North Summit’s 90 which landed them in second. Host Unitah, Juan Diego and Maeser Prep would round out the top five.

The distance runners turned in another solid performance adding 63 points to Carbon’s total. Beverly Lancaster took the top spot in the 1600 meter with a time of 5:49.77. Sophia Taylor finished just behind in a time of 6:03.02 and Ambree Jones would finish fifth. In the 3200, Lancaster took second place 12:54.92,  seconds behind the first place finisher Elizabeth Zwahlen of North Summit. Taylor, Jones and Erin Stromness would also claim third through fifth place for Carbon. Makenna Blanc took the top spot in the 800 at 2:34.10 with Lancaster taking fourth.

In the 110 meter hurdles Eminie Elliot grabbed the top spot in a time of 18.11 with Kinlee Lewis in fourth, Lewis would also take fifth in the 300 meter hurdles as well.  In the 400 meter, the Dinos would claim fourth and fifth with Mia Crompton and Kaylie Metzger claiming those spots. Haylee Prescott took second place in the 200 meter with a time of 27.96.

In relays Carbon’s team of Blanc, Elliot, Prescott and Lyndee Mower took the top spot in the 400×100 relay with a time of 52.51. Carbon also placed fourth in the 4×400.

Haylee Prescott claimed the number one spot in the high jump and long jump, Saydee Johnson and Eminie Elliot took the second and fifth spots in the long jump respectively. In the shot put it was Kayla Lee earning a third place finish and Miriah Salee in fifth. Salee also had a top three finish in the javelin.

The Carbon boys team finished with 106 points just five behind first place Cottonwood. Monticello, San Juan and Uintah rounded out the top five.

Once again Ryker Childs would stockpile points for the Dinos with first place finishes in the 110 and 300 meter hurdles as well as the 100 meter, he also would claim second place in the long jump. Will Carmichael took the fourth place spot in the 200 meter turning in a time of 25.78 and Easton Humes’ time of 55.61 would be enough for fourth in the 400. Carbon would also earn the fourth spot in the 4×400.

Distances were kind to the boys as well with Kobe Cruz taking second in the 3200 with a time of 10:37.10, just seven seconds off of first place. Cruz would also take third in the 1600 and fifth in the 800 turning in a time of 2:15.71.

In the high jump it was Caleb Winfree finishing in the No. 2 spot and Bradley Wood earned a top three finish in the shot put .

The Dinos will hit the track again on Tuesday when they travel to Nephi for the Juab Invitational.
