Hazel Ruth McKee McMullin left this earthly home on April 18th, 2021, at the Good Life Home in Elmo.  She was 92 years old.

She was born July 15th 1928 in Huntington, Utah to James Albert and Eliza Mae Sherman McKee.  She was the 9th of 9 children.  All her siblings, parents, husband and many friends welcomed her.

She married her high school sweetheart, Lee Douglas McMullin on August 23rd 1946 shortly after he returned from WWII.  It was solemnized in the Manti Temple April 24th 1964.  They made their home in Cleveland, Utah for over 70 years. They had 4 children: Bernice (Val) Payne, Mark (Margaret) McMullin, Bruce (Sherrie) McMullin, and Annette (Kevin) Jensen, all of Cleveland.

Hazel had 19 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren.

Hazel’s greatest joy was teaching others what she learned, whether it was sewing at Fun Fabrics, cooking, or something she could share about the gospel.  She loved the gospel and spent a lot of time studying.  She was always busy giving service to anyone that she felt would like a loaf of hot bread or a plate of her scrumptious hot rolls.  Lee would come in from the farm work and declare, “This is the best smelling house in town.”  He loved her hot bread.

In the 1950’s and ’60s when civil defense was a big deal, Hazel went to a civil defense course up state and came home with a huge siren she had mounted on the old fire truck garage.  She then learned how to drive Cleveland’s first fire engine.  She knew if there was a fire she could close the grocery store they ran in town and run across the road to the fire truck and be almost to the fire by the time the men came in from their fields or work.  A major help, as it only went about 25 -30 MPH.  By the time the men arrived at the fire, she was usually there waiting with the truck. We are grateful to Owen Olsen for his work to restore and preserve the Fire Engine.

The family wishes to extend their greatest gratitude to the wonderful ladies at the Good Life.  She absolutely loved them and they loved her.  She said to us one time, “You can’t take care of me the way I need to be taken care of.”  Meaning she didn’t have a button at home she could push and get us there in twenty seconds or less—like the service she had at Good Life.  They went above and beyond for her.

We also wish to thank her many quilting friends and especially her wonderful friend Patsy Allred.  Pat visited her every few days and always brought her small gifts of fresh fruit, food, and a weekly newspaper; but the best were her faithful visits and Boyd Griffin who visited and sang with his guitar.

She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, siblings and special daughter-in-law Joan; one grandson, one granddaughter, and two great grandsons.
