The Emery track and field squad were in Richfield last week to compete in the Nyle Norris Invitational.  Both teams had strong showings with the boy’s team claiming a third place finish out of 11 teams and the girls team landing in the sixth position out of the 10 teams that competed.

The Spartan boys put up 84 points which was half of first place Juab. Delta took the second spot and Richfield and Panguitch rounded out the top five.

Trevin Brazier took the top spot in both the hurdle events. In the 110 meters, he turned in a time of 15.28 and in the 300 his time of 39.34 was enough to land him in first place. He also claimed second in the 100 meters crossing the finish at 11.26, barely off the pace set by Delta’s Oran Finlinson at 11.21.

In the distance races Emery was represented well with Jess Christiansen taking second in the 1600 meter with a time of 4:41.32. Bryar Meccariello finished just behind Richfield’s Cannon Anderson in the 800, turning in a time of 2:04.25, Christiansen finished just behind in third.

The Spartans finished in the top five in two relays as well with the team of Shane Guymon, Boston Huntington, Cannon Sharp and Camden Larsen grabbing fourth in the sprint medley and Meccariello, Christiansen, Brazier and Eli Morris claiming third in the 4×400.

Maddox Christman took the top spot in the shot put and also finished fifth in the javelin.

The Lady Spartans finished the day in the No. 6 spot with Delta taking top honors. Manti, Juab, Panguitch and host school Richfield round out the top five.

Relays were good to the girls squad as well with the team of Brynn Gordon, Abby Morris, Nicole Castro and Bethany Justice grabbing a second place finish in the 4×100 with a time of 54.71 just off the top spot claimed by Delta. In the 4×400, Castro was joined by Kalle Cooke, Addie Lester and Tayvi Stilson and took third with a time of 5:00.77.

In the 3200 Cook took the fifth spot and then in the  400, Justice crossed the finish in 1:05.77 to land herself in third.

The Spartans will head back to the track on April 23 when they travel to Orem High School for the Tiger Trials.
