After an 11-1 loss at the hands of the Uintah Utes on Monday, the Carbon Dinos were back on the diamond on Tuesday to take on The Emery Spartans under the lights in Price. As both teams went back and forth the Dinos found a way to come out on top 13-8.
It’s always a battle when these two teams get together and this time wouldn’t be any different with Emery scoring first and then taking the lead in the top of the fifth inning. The Dinos used a big sixth inning scoring seven runs and putting the game away.
Emery would get on the board first when Tylee Norton would score on a passed ball. In the bottom of the third inning Carbon would take the lead on a single swing from the bat of Stevie Oman sending a grand slam home run over the left field fence scoring Molly Horsley, Makayla Scovill and Gianna Bruno.
Bralin Wilde and Norton would each add home runs in the top of the fifth pushing the Emery lead to 6-4.
The Dinos would get it going again in the seventh inning with a Lyndsey Madrigal double that scored two runs. Bruno would step up to the plate next and empty the bases with a three run home run to left field. Emery would tack on two more runs in the seventh but Carbon held on to take the victory.
For the Spartans Tylee Norton had three RBIs in the contest while collecting four hits and scored two runs. Bralin Wilde would also put up three RBIs on three hits and scored two runs as well.
Defensively a trio of Spartan pitchers would go up against the Dinos. Madisyn Childs would get the start going five innings giving up nine earned runs on 11 hits while striking out four. Kaejha Johnson came in to go 1/3 and gave up four earned on three hits and Cambrie Jensen finished out the contest surrendering one hit.
For the Dinos offense, it was Stevie Oman and Gianna Bruno who both collected four RBIs. Oman also had one hit and scored a run and Bruno added three hits and three runs.
On the mound Haven Byerly would get the complete game for the Dinos giving up 12 hits and six earned runs while striking out 13.
Up next for the Spartans is a home match-up with Richfield on Thursday. Game time is set for 3:30.
The Dinos were scheduled to face North Summit Wednesday but that game was canceled because of weather. Carbon will be back on the field on Friday as they travel to Moab to face the Grand County Red Devils. Wednesday April 28, will be the Dinos last home game of the season when they welcome in the North Sanpete Hawks in a non-region contest.
