Utah State University Eastern is gearing up for their graduation ceremony set to take place on Saturday, April 24 which means it’s time to start class registration for the summer and fall semesters. Director of Student Services, Kevin Hurst stopped by Castle Country Radio to talk about registration.

Summer courses begin on May 10 and if you have not used your financial aid for the 2020-2021 school year it can be applied to your summer courses. “Registration is open, anybody interested could register for classes and classes begin for summer on May 10. So financial aid, if you have aid available, if you haven’t used your aid for fall and spring, yea you could use the left-over aid for summer,” said Hurst. If you are unsure whether you’ve used your aid or not you can swing by the Financial Aid Office for assistance.

The one-stop Student Support Services office is currently open five days a week. “So we’re Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm at the one-stop Student Support Services. In there they have the admissions if you need to get admitted to the school. They have our advising; they can hook you up with advisor to talk about classes. Financial aid is all in there and our scholarship professional. So it’s just one stop to get your questions answered,” said Hurst. The one-stop Student Support Services is located in the building just south of the Jennifer Leavitt Student Center.

Summer courses are a little quieter than during regular fall and spring semesters. “Our summer semester there isn’t as many students on campus. So it’s a lot more low-key, you have a lot more individual attention between you and faculty. Not a lot of pressure because you don’t have the crowds on campus and its also a great opportunity to get caught up on some credits or to take some extra credits and really fast track yourself to graduation,” stated Hurst. Most summer courses are offered in blocks of 7 weeks but there are some courses that are offered all summer long.

Don’t forget that USU Eastern offers graduated programs as well. “We’re seeing a large increase of students sticking around for Bachelors, in fact, we have seen a jump in percentage. But one of the advantages of summer is just that, you’re not takin a full course load typically over the summer, so you only have a few classes that you are focused on. So you can really give them your attention and it really does fast track you. We see a lot of data that supports students who take courses over the summer are more likely to graduate which is kind of cool,” said Hurst.
