The Miss Carbon County Organization is gearing up for pageant season with an upcoming informational meeting and the pageant itself coming up on August 28. Castle Country Radio was able to sit down with Pageant Director, Kylie Howes and Co-Director MeriLynn Tubbs to talk about all the details.
“The Miss Carbon County Organization is a scholarship based organization and service based. We are a local non-profit so we do have that entailed with us as well. But the main purpose is for service and scholarships. So the girls come in and if they happen to win the pageant they can do all types of service throughout the community, they are involved all the time,” stated Howes. The girls can be seen and participating at many community events throughout the county all year long.
The scholarship opportunities are for both the Teen and Miss programs. “It varies every year because we do base our awards on businesses, business donations, we usually award around $4,000.00 in scholarships. So we are hoping to beat that this year and hopefully get up to about $5,000.00 this year but that’s kind of where the scholarships are at,” explained Howes. The scholarships are awarded to the queen and her runners-up. Any businesses that would like to make a donation towards the Miss Carbon County Organization Scholarship can contact Howes or a member of the royalty.
The organization divides up the royalty into age groups and there are some changes that contestants need to know about. “So the age changes for our 2021 pageant if you are 17 years of age, you can choose between Miss Carbon County or Miss Teen Carbon County. If you’re 13 years of age, you can choose between Junior Miss Carbon County or Miss Teen Carbon County,” stated Tubbs. Young women age 17-24 are eligible to compete in the Miss Carbon County Pageant and young women age 13-17 are eligible to compete in the Miss Teen Carbon County competition. Young women need to live, work, or go to school in the Carbon County area in order to participate.
Any young ladies that would like to participate in the Miss Carbon or Miss Teen Carbon County can attend an Informational Meeting on Tuesday, June 15 at Mont Harmon Middle School at 5:00 pm for the Miss Teen Carbon County and 6:30 pm for the Miss Carbon County.
