Price City is currently working on constructing Pickleball courts at Washington Park. Council Member Layne Miller and Enthusiast Scott McKee both took time to come in to Castle Country Radio to talk all things Pickleball.

“Price City is taking one of the old basketball courts on the south end of Washington Park, going to turn it with Scott’s help we’re turning it into three Pickleball courts,” stated Miller. The old basketball court has sat unused for several years since a newer court was installed just west of the now new Pickleball courts. The new Pickleball courts should be completed and ready for play in 2-3 weeks.

Pickleball is a combination of a few sports as McKee explains, “Kind of like ping pong, badminton and tennis combined. The court is similar, it looks like a tennis court, 20 feet by 44 feet, the net is 34 inches tall. It’s played with a flat paddle, and a Wiffle ball. If you look at it, you’ll think you’re playing miniature tennis but you don’t have to move as much because the court is smaller.” The sport is growing in popularity around the state so to see courts coming to life in Price is extraordinary.

The new Pickleball courts will bring in people for tournaments from all around the state. Local enthusiasts recently held a fundraiser tournament. “We just had a tournament the other day, a fundraiser and we raised over $700.00 for our new courts – so we’re putting our money in also. At International Day yea we will have a small tournament,” explained McKee. Any individuals who wish to find out more information about Pickleball can join other enthusiasts in the area on the Price Utah Pickleball Facebook page.
