Kirk Haney – USU Eastern Athletics

The USU Eastern Eagle Baseball team welcomed in the Salt Lake Community College Bruins to Carlson-Colosimo Field in Price over the weekend for a four game series. The Bruins took the victory in all contests, claiming the season series from the Eagles 1-8.

Below is a recap of the weekends games:

Game 1

Loss 8-3

Karter Pope took the loss for Utah State Eastern. The pitcher surrendered six runs on nine hits over five innings, striking out four.

Utah State Eastern socked two home runs on the day. Parker Applegate had a homer in the second inning. Dylan Rodriguez went deep in the eighth inning.

Utah State Eastern racked up seven hits on the day. Rodriguez and Gabe Childs each collected multiple hits for Utah State Eastern. Childs and Rodriguez all had two hits to lead Utah State Eastern.

Game 2

Loss 7-1

Utah State Eastern couldn’t keep up with SLCC and fell 7-1 on Friday.
In the first inning, Utah State Eastern got their offense started. Utah State Eastern scored one run when Dylan Sanchez doubled.

Parker Buys took the loss for Utah State Eastern. The pitcher went six innings, allowing seven runs on nine hits and striking out eight.

Dylan Rodriguez went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Utah State Eastern in hits.

Game 3

Loss 11-7

Utah State Eastern captured the lead in the first inning. Gabe Childs singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs.

Hayden Brock took the loss for Utah State Eastern. The pitcher surrendered eight runs on seven hits over three innings, striking out three. Gabe Lundbeck came in relief and gave up just 3 runs in four innings pitched.

Utah State Eastern launched one home run on the day. Parker Applegate had a homer in the third inning. Eastern tallied 11 hits in the game. Applegate and Dylan Sanchez each managed multiple hits for Utah State Eastern. Applegate went 4-for-4 at the plate to lead Utah State Eastern in hits.

Game 4

Loss 4-3

Utah State Eastern stayed in it until the end, but SLCC pulled away late in a 4-3 victory on Saturday.

Mason Nielson took the loss for Utah State Eastern. The pitcher allowed three hits and one run over one inning, striking out two and walking zero. Riley Ashton started the game for Utah State Eastern. Ashton lasted nine innings, allowing six hits and three runs while striking out five.

Utah State Eastern tallied eight hits in the game. Dylan Rodriguez and Skiler Hohrein all collected multiple hits for Utah State Eastern. Hohrein and Rodriguez each collected two hits to lead Utah State Eastern.

Next up for the Eagles (23-23 overall and 6-17 in conference) is a road series with the College of Southern Nevada in Henderson. USU Eastern will then wrap up the regular season the following weekend back home when they welcome in the College of Southern Idaho.
