cinco-de-mayo

The Helper First Friday Celebrations are back and this month’s theme is Cinco De Mayo. The celebration will take place on Friday, May 7 at 6:00 pm on Helper’s historic Main Street. Event Organizer, Ashley Hardy took time to sit down with Castle Country Radio to discuss all the details of the celebration.

“So this is Cinco De Mayo themed so we have dancers coming down, Mexican Folklore Dancers coming down, they will be dancing up and down the streets. We also have our first Helper First Friday Beer Garden, this is something that we kind of fundraised for last June, we’ve just been hanging on to that money and now we will have a beer garden this time,” explained Hardy. The entertainment will be featured all evening for guests to enjoy.

There will be many businesses open during the celebration and some are offering fun activities. “We have Untitled Gallery Too they’ll have horchata and treats. Adams Fine Art has a workshop with Michael Workman and virgin margaritas. Canvas Alchemy is hosting a costume contest, you dress up in Cinco De Mayo attire and the best dress wins a skateboard,” stated Hardy. Vintage Motor Company has invited guests to take a tour of the museum and urge any classic car enthusiasts to bring their cars to show them off for the evening.

There will also be fun activities for the children to enjoy too. “Three Little Llamas is going to have sombrero decorating and a pinata at 6:30 pm and Mexican soda. We also have a bounce house for them this time around,” said Hardy. There will be treats given away at Box Car Gallery, Bug & Bird Mercantile and Knight’s Landing AirBnB.

Local restaurants such as Balance Rock Eatery, The Filling Station and Marsha’s Sammich Shop will be open for guests to stop by and enjoy a bite to eat. There will be several vendors set up along the street that will feature various items and offer other fun activities. Any individuals interested in being a vendor for the celebration can contact Helper First Friday officials on Facebook to get registered. The vendor fee is only $35.00.
