The Lady Spartans softball squad were looking to close out the regular season with a win on the road when they traveled to Gunnison to face the Bulldogs.  Unfortunately, Gunnsion put Emery in a hole that they couldn’t climb out of and the Spartans fell 11-6.

After a first inning where the Bulldogs went up 3-1, Emery came out in the second taking the lead back starting with an error by the shortstop that allowed Aspen Taylor to reach first and would also let Taleigh Price score. In the next at bat Arilyn Allred would send a double to center field bringing home Taylor and tied the score at four.  Tylee Norton came up to the plate in the fifth, driving in two more runs with a single to right pulling within two runs of Gunnison and that was as close as Emery would get.

On the offensive side for the Spartans, Taylor went 2-of-3 and Allred 2-of-4 with one RBI. Kaejha Johnson and Norton both added one hit each and Norton collected two RBIs.

Defensively for Emery on the mound, Madisyn Childs got the start giving up eight runs (seven earned) on four hits while striking out six. Cambrie Jensen took over in the fourth inning giving up three runs (two earned) on five hits taking the loss.

The Spartans finished the regular season at 15-9-1 overall and 7-3 in Region 12 play. The last time the RPI was viewable they sat in the sixth spot in 3A.

Now the Lady Spartans will play the waiting game until Wednesday May 5 when the Utah High School Activities Association will release the the final RPI and the bracket for the 3A State Championships that will begin on Saturday May 8.
