The Carbon School District weekly update shines the spotlight on Carbon High School where Castle Country Radio had the opportunity to sit down with the new Principal Jared Hardy to talk about himself, testing and summer construction.

“Prior to Carbon when I first moved to Carbon County I came as a middle school History teacher. I taught at Mont Harmon for eight years doing history, health and some P.E. classes. I did some coaching at Mont Harmon football, basketball and wrestling. After I left Mont Harmon, I was the principal out at Sally Mauro Elementary for three years. After three years there is when I moved up here to Carbon to be Vice Principal,” stated Principal Hardy. He is looking forward to taking the helm next year and building some great relationships with his staff, students and parents.

The school recently finished up with end of the year testing. “We know there’s going to be a gap from the end of last year because of COVID. But being able to be in-person all year we’re excited to see where were going to come out. We won’t see any final scores on that till later this Fall. But we’re feeling very confident that our students are going to perform well. They already did, our Juniors performed well on the A.C.T. even with that big gap at the end of last year are student perform right at the same level that our students have performed at the A.C.T in past years,” explained Principal Hardy. He appreciates all the hard work that students have put in towards the end of the year testing.

When school ends at the end of the month the school will be closed to all visitors as contractors complete construction. “In the building they’re going to be re-doing every hallway floor, all the lighting in the hall. They’re going to be re-doing all the windows in the entire building. They are going to be turning our old media center into six new classrooms. Every wall in the building, in the hallways will be either restructured, painted, re-done. We’re going to look quite a bit different in the Fall,” stated Principal Hardy. The parking lot area will also be revamped and more parking will be made available when the old bus garage is torn down.

If people are needing to get in touch with a Carbon High School staff member over the summer that will be possible. “The office will still be opened but we will be working out of the district office and so if people need to call, we’ll still be able to take calls. But if they need to come in-person to do something, we’ll be working out of the district office,” said Principal Hardy. The district office is located at 251 West 400 North in Price.
