The Carbon tennis team took part in the Region 12 Championships in Richfield last weekend. The tournament is mainly used for seeding in the State Championships coming up at the end of this week at Liberty Park in Salt Lake City. The Dinos came away with three No.1 seeds and two No. 2 seeds for the end of year competition.

Carbon won the Region 12 crown posting 48 team points, 14 points ahead of second place Richfield who tallied 34. Carbon entered with an undefeated region record that gave them 12 points before they even stepped on the court, and all singles and doubles were rewarded with either a No.1 or No. 2 placement which gave Carbon a first round bye.

In the second round Preston Condie defeated Brayden Staples of South Sevier 3-6, 6-3 and 6-0. Jack Livingston and Derek Jorgensen would win their individual matches in straight sets. In doubles the teams of Leonard Livingston and Branden Scovill and Alex Callahan and Garrett Bryner would go on to win their matches in straight sets also.

In the final round Condie would drop his match to Richfield’s Tyler Saunders 6-1, 6-7 (6-8), 6-7 (5-7). In the other singles matches, Jack Livingston and Jorgensen both claimed three set wins. The doubles team of Leonard Livingston and Scovill beat out the team of Cameron Jensen and Spencer Jensen from San Juan in straight sets. The doubles team of Callahan and Bryner fell in defeat to Bryant Shell and Will Jackson of Gunnison.

Condie defeated Staples (South Sevier): 3-6, 6-3, 6-0

Second Singles:

Jack Livingston defeated Ammon Jackman (Grand): 6-0, 6-1

Third Singles:

Jorgensen defeated Luke Robbins (Richfield): 6-1, 6-1

First Doubles:

Leonard Livingston/Scovill defeated Britton Singleton and Cameron Jewkes (Richfield): 7-5, 6-2

Second Doubles:

Callahan/Bryner defeated Gavin Olsen/ Jaxon Demille (Richfield) 6-4, 6-3

Round 3- Finals- Win- 3-2

First Singles:

Condie lost to Saunders (Richfield): 6-1, 6-7 (6-8), 6-7 (5-7)

Second Singles:

Jack Livingston defeated Connor Jensen (Richfield): 6-7 (5-7), 6-3, 6-1

Third Singles:

Jorgensen defeated Damon Bergfeld (South Sevier): 0-6, 6-2, 6-4

First Doubles:

Leonard Livingston/Scovill defeated Cameron Jensen and Spencer Jensen (San Juan): 6-4, 6-2

Second Doubles:

Callahan/Bryner lost to Shell/Jackson (Gunnison): 6-3, 2-6, 5-7

The Dinos will head to the State Championships with Condie entering as the No.2 seed behind Saunders. Jack Livingston (Second Singles) and Jorgensen (Third Singles) will both enter as the No. 1 seeds for Region 12. The First Doubles team of Leonard Livingston and Scovill will enter as the No. 1 Seed for region and the team of Callahan and Bryner earned the No.2 spot.
