The Carbon Dinos Baseball squad come up on game short of a State Championship this season. Losing the first game of the season to Payson on March 9, the Dinos went on a seven game streak where they outscored their opponents 87-28.

The Dinos battled their way to a Region 12 crown and made it to the final game against eventual champion Granstville. Playing in the third game of the day Carbon fell short of the title, but Coach Jeff Cisneros had nothing but praise for his team and the effort they put forth.

“I am extremely proud of our team. The heart and character that they showed all year, and in the last week of our season, is something that I’ve never seen matched,” Cisneros stated in a recent interview with Drive Time Sports. “I just feel bad as a coach because I wasn’t able to bring them home a State Championship, because they truly deserved it, and in my opinion was the best team in 3A this year.”

Below is a recap of the 2021 season:

March 9- Payson- Loss 4-3

Despite jumping out to an early 3-0 lead heading into the third frame, the Dinos were unable to hold off a late run by the Lions in an eventual 4-3 setback.

Kade Dimick used a solo home run to bolster the Carbon offense early. Ending 2-4 at the plate, Dimick was one of three Carbon players to finish with multiple hits.

Jacob Vasquez reached safely in all three plate appearances as he produced a 3-3 outing. Derick Robinson also singled twice in a 2-4 effort. Rylan Hart, Jordan Fossat and Dimick each logged one RBI in the setback.

Carbon utilized four pitchers in the season opener, starting with Wyatt Falk who went three full innings. Striking out six batters Falk allowed just one hit during the outing. The mound was shared by three others over the final four frames as Fossat, Hart and Cayden Steele also received time for the Dinos.

March 11-Summit Academy- Win 5-2

Fighting the cold, early spring temperatures, the Dinos scored three runs in the second inning to take the lead for good. Holding a slim 3-2 lead entering the sixth, Carbon added two more runs to put the game out of reach.

Brayton Nielsen recorded two of the team’s six hits as he finished 2-2 with two singles and a run. The remaining four hits were spread out among four other players.

Keaton Rich ended the day 1-2 at the plate with two RBIs. Rich recorded the only extra base hit of the game as he doubled. Jordan Wright, Wyatt Falk and Derick Robison each finished with one single.

March 17- Granstville- Win 12-7

Carbon scored two runs in each of the first and second innings but it was the third when they did the most damage. Cooper Schade started things off scoring Kade Dimmick on a single to right. Derrick Robinson would drive in Jordan Wright and Schade off a double to left field then in the next at bat Wyatt Falk would empty the bases with a home run over the center field fence. Rylan Hart would cap off the six run third by driving in Brayton Nielsen on a single to left field.

Hart would go 3-of-4 from the plate with a run and two RBIs. The trio of Dimmick, Robinson and Falk each registered two RBIs in the contest as well.

On the mound Wyatt Falk was credited with the win going four innings giving up two earned runs while striking out seven. Keaton Rich would take over in the fifth allowing five hits and five runs. Jordan Fossat would go the final 2 1/3 innings with three hits and striking out two.

March 19- Timpview- Win 19-2

Carbon started early scoring 11 runs in the first two innings of the game. With the score sitting at 2-0 in the bottom of the second inning, Jacob Vasquez and Brayton Nielsen scored on a Jordan Wright double to left. After that the hit parade would continue as Jordan Fossat would score Wright and Rylan Hart on a double to left. The Dinos would run the score to 11-0 after a six hit inning that also saw Timpview commit two errors give up two walks and hit two batters with a pitch.

In the third inning the Dinos started up again and capped off the seven run scoring barrage with a Keaton Rich grand slam home run which scored Nielsen, Wright and Hart pushing the score to 18-0. Carbon would add one more in the bottom of the fourth on a Cayden Steele double to center that would score Wyatt Falk.

Rich led the Dinos with four RBIs on two hits while scoring two runs. Jordan Fossat and Jordan Wright would each add two RBIs on two hits with five other players registering at least one RBI each.

On the mound for the Dinos, Cooper Schade got the start going three innings giving up just one hit and striking out five. Steele went one with a strikeout and Nielsen would also go one while giving up two earned runs.

March 23- South Sevier- Win 7-1

In a defensive gem giving up just one run Carbon pushed their overall record to 4-1 by claiming the victory 7-1 over the Rams.

Putting a run on the board in the first inning, Carbon would go scoreless in the second waiting until the third to put more runs on the board. Rylan Hart would score off a Jordan Fossat single to left. Later in the inning Keaton Rich would score on a wild pitch and Kade Dimick would score on a ground out from Jacob Vasquez to third making the score 4-0.

Then in the top of the sixth the Dinos would add three more runs. Brayton Nielsen would score on a Jordan Wright dropped third strike,  Hart would score  on a Rich single to short and Rich would then score the final run on an error from the third baseman, pushing the score to 7-0, South Sevier would score their only run on a wild pitch from Wyatt Falk, who would then strike out the side to close out the sixth inning with the score 7-1.

Jordan Fossat would register two RBIs on one hit in the victory. Keaton Rich, Jacob Fausett and Jordan Wright would all collect one RBI in the game. As a team the Dinos registered 10 hits and only committed one error.

On the mound Wyatt Falk got the start and the win going six innings allowing one earned run and striking out eight. Rylan Hart would come in for just one inning striking out one on seven pitches.

March 24- South Sevier- Win 11-4

The Dinos are scheduled to play seven games this week and on Wednesday the faced South Sevier for the second time in as many days. On Tuesday they defeated the Rams 7-1 in Monroe, the venue would change on Wednesday but the result was the same as the Dinos took the 11-4 win in Price.

The Rams would get on the board first scoring two runs in the top of the first however, the Dinos would tie the score going into inning number two on a Keaton Rich double scoring Rylan Hart and then later in the inning Jordan Fossat would bring Rich home with a single to left. Carbon would take a 4-3 lead on a Hart single to third driving in Derick Robison.

The Dinos would add another run in the bottom of the fourth but it was the fifth inning when the offense would hit it’s stride scoring six runs on five hits and an error. Robison would get it started with a pop fly to second which allowed Wyatt Falk to score. In the next at bat Ridge Nielsen would drive in Cooper Schade on a single to left, after a pitching change for South Sevier, a Hart double brought home Robison and Chet Anderson. Hart would then score on a Rich single to left and would then score on a passed ball making the score 11-3. Carbon would allow one more run to the Rams, but secured the victory.

Rylan Hart had three RBIs for the Dinos on two hits and scored two runs. Derick Robison and Keaton Rich both turned in a two RBI performance as Carbon combined for 13 hits and nine RBIs with just four strikeouts.

On the mound for the Dinos Jordan Fossat would get the start and the win, going four innings giving up two earned runs and striking out eight. Colton Lowe and Kade Dimick would come in from the bullpen combining for 2 runs and two strikeouts and allowed two hits.

Thursday March 25 Cedar- Game one- Win 16-5, Game two- Win 18-7

Game one:

The Dinos jumped out quickly in the first game scoring nine runs in the first two innings. The first run of the game was off of a Wyatt Falk single to the shortstop scoring Rylan Hart. Jordan Fossat would hit a double to left scoring Brayton Nielsen. In the next at bat Derick Robinson would fly-out to right, Falk would score and then Kade Dimick would bring Fossat home on a line drive to center. Inning two would be more scoring by the Dinos. Keaton Rich would start it off with a double to left bringing in Jacob Vasquez. The inning would be capped off by a Kade Dimick triple bringing home Falk and Fossat and pushing the score to 9-0.

Carbon added another seven runs allowing Cedar just five in the six inning win for the Dinos.

Kade Dimick and Jordan Fossat would each register three RBIs in the contest, Dimick on two hits and Fossat on three. Wyatt Falk had four hits while collecting two RBIs and five other Dinos registered at least one RBI in the game.

On the mound Jordan Wright would get the start and the win going five innings giving up four runs on five hits and striking out three. Brayton Nielsen would go one giving up one run.

Game two:

In inning one Carbon would get on the board scoring three runs but in the second they would erupt for 14. With the bases loaded Cooper Schade would score on a walk of Rylan Hart. The next three runs would come courtesy of a walk and two errors. With the score 7-0, Kade Dimick would hit a triple to left driving in Rich, Brayton Nielsen and Wyatt Falk.

After three singles and a double the Dinos would be sitting on a 17-0 lead in the top of the second. In the bottom half of the inning, Cedar would get their first runs on the board with two in the second, then another four in the bottom of the third and one more in the fourth before Carbon would shut them down the rest of the way. Carbon would add one more run and the game would come to an end 18-7 after five innings of play.

Kade Dimick would register five RBIs in the game on two hits while scoring one run. Wyatt Falk had three RBIs on one hit while scoring two. Rylan Hart would collect three runs on two hits with two RBIs.

Defensively Brayton Nielsen would get the start and the win going three innings giving up seven hits and six runs (three earned). Jacob Vasquez would go two, giving up one run and striking out one.

March 26 Game one- Union- Loss 4-3, Game two- Grand- Win 6-0

Game one:

In game one the Dinos would face the Union Cougars from Roosevelt. Carbon would get on the board first on a Rylan Hart single to right field scoring Cooper Schade. In the same inning Keaton Rich would hit a single to second scoring James Castro.

In a game that would turn out to be a defensive battle Carbon would hold Union scoreless until the fifth when a Rayden Deets single would score Tyler Walker. Union would go on to tie it at two in the bottom of the seventh.

Carbon would cross the plate one more time on a Jacob Vasquez ground out to first scoring Derick Robison. Union would add two more in the bottom of the eight taking the win in extra innings.

Jacob Vasquez and Rylan Hart would each collect one RBI in the contest and Keaton Rich would get two hits.

On the mound Kade Dimick would get the start going four innings, giving up one earned run on two hits while striking out six. Keaton Rich would take the loss going 3 1/3 giving up six hits while surrendering three runs (two earned) and struck out four.

Game two:

In game two the Dinos would face the Grand County Red Devils. This would be the second conference team that Carbon would play this season, the Dinos have gone up against South Sevier twice already taking both contests.

Carbon would jump out to a 3-0 lead after two innings scoring runs off the bats of Kade Dimmick, Keaton Rich and Wyatt Falk. Derick Robison would bring home Falk on a single to right field and Ridge Nielsen would drive Robison in on a double later in the inning. Keaton Rich would cross the plate once more in the bottom of the sixth to bring the score to 6-0.

Five Dinos would collect one RBI each, with Rylan Hart and Keaton Rich each registering two hits. Rich and Falk would score two runs also.

On the mound, Cooper Schade would get the start and the win, allowing no hits and no runs and striking out six. Ryaln Hart would enter in the seventh and give up one hit in the inning.

March 27 Game one- Desert Hills- Loss- 13-3

In their final game of the weekend the Dinos faced host the Desert Hills Thunder. The Thunder have an 11-1 record and play in Region 9 in the 4A class. The Thunder jumped out to a nine run lead after three innings and did not let up holding Carbon to just three runs and taking the 13-3 win in five innings.

Karson Irvin, who got the start on the mound for Desert Hills was on early, allowing just six batters in the first two innings, the Dinos had to wait until the third inning before they collected their first hit, a Jacob Vasquez single to center.

It was the top of the fifth when Carbon would break through and put runs on the board, starting with a Derick Robison single to center scoring Jordan Fossat. Later in the inning, Robison would score on a passed ball and then Vasquez would bring home Cooper Schade on a single to right to bring the score to 9-3 at the midway point of the fifth.

The Dinos would give up four runs to Desert Hills in the bottom of the fifth inning pushing the score to 13-3 and giving the Thunder the win.

Jacob Vasquez would lead the Dinos with two hits, Jordan Fossat and Derrick Robison would post one hit and one run, Cooper Shade would also score a run.

On the mound the Dinos would use four pitchers with Wyatt Falk getting the start and the loss. Falk would go 1 2/3 innings giving up seven earned runs on three hits. Jordan Fossat would come into go 2 1/3 giving up two runs on one hit and striking out two. Beau Vea would enter giving up four runs (three earned), and Rylan Hart would come into finish the game giving up one hit.

March 31- Juab- Loss 6-1

Playing for the only time this week, the Dinos fell behind early as Juab posted three runs in the bottom of the second. The Wasps later extended their lead with another three run frame, this time in the fourth.

While Juab plated six runs in the contest only two were earned as the Dinos committed six errors in the game. Both teams experienced success on the mound as Carbon finished with just four hits and Juab five.

Jordan Fossat pitched three complete innings as he allowed three hits, two earned runs and four strikeouts for the Dinos. Jordan Wright worked three innings in relief giving up two hits and no earned runs.

Juab received a powerful pitching performance from ace Dalin Ludlow as he recorded a complete game. Allowing four hits and one earned run, Ludlow struck out 12 Carbon batters as he picked up the win.

Keaton Rich was one of four Carbon players to log a hit as he finished 1-2 with a triple. Derick Robison, Jacob Vasquez and Cooper Schade all hit singles. The lone run for the Dinos came as Vasquez brought in Robison.

April 6- San Juan- Win 19-0

San Juan committed nine errors in the contest with Carbon taking advantage scoring four runs as a result. In the first inning Rylan Hart would take advantage of an error by the first basemen scoring a run. Kade Dimick would hit a triple bringing in Jordan Fossat, on the next swing of the bat Wyatt Falk would hit a double that would score Dimick and then Falk scored on a balk by the pitcher. Moving into the second Jacob Vasquez and Keaton Rich would both cross the plate to push the score to 6-0.

Inning three would see the Dinos double up their score off hits from Dimick and Falk as well as a fielder’s choice from Hart scoring Derek Robinson and another error that allowed Hart to come home. In the fourth, Carbon would continue adding another seven runs. Vasquez would collect two RBIs off a single to center field allowing Brayton Nielsen and Cooper Schade to score. Two more errors would allow runs from Vasquez and Rich, as well as a single that would score Hart. Carbon would end the scoring barrage on a Schade single to short allowing Dimick to score.

Kade Dimick led the Dinos with five RBIs on three hits while he also scored three runs. Rylan Hart, Jacob Vasquez and Wyatt Falk each had two RBIs and three other players collected one RBI a piece.

Dimick would also get the three hit complete game shutout, striking out seven while throwing just 85 pitches in the contest.

April 7- Gunnison- Loss 1-0

Kade Dimick registered the only hit for the Dinos in the seventh inning with a single to center, Wyatt Falk would get on base due to an error by the second baseman and then Derick Robinson would collect a walk to load the bases with just one out. Keisel would strike out the next two batters leaving the bases loaded and collect the win for Gunnison Valley.

Janzen Keisel was nearly unhittable giving up one hit and no runs while striking out 18.

Carbon used three pitchers in the contest. Jordan Wright would get the start and the loss going 4 1/3 giving up one earned run on three hits and struck out eight. Wyatt Falk entered the game for 1 2/3 striking out one and Rylan Hart took over on the mound in the seventh to finish the game and struck out two.

April 9- San Juan- Win 7-1

The Dinos got started quietly scoring one run in the first when Jordan Fossat grounded out to second,  allowing Rylan Hart to score. The Dinos would go quiet until the bottom of the fourth, when Cooper Schade doubled to left scoring Derek Robinson and later in the inning Jacob Vasquez would fly out to center giving Brayton Nielsen and Schade the chance to score.

They would carry a 4-1 lead into the bottom of the sixth until a Keaton Rich double to left brought home Vasquez and Hart, and then later in the inning Rich would steal home to push the score to the 7-1 final.

Keaton Rich collected two RBIs on one hit and scored one run. Jacob Vasquez would earn two RBIs as well scoring one hit and one run.

On the mound Keaton Rich got the start collecting the win going 5 2/3 innings giving up one earned run on three hits striking out nine.  Rylan Hart would come in to close out the game giving up no hits and striking out one.

April 10- Bountiful- Loss 1-0

On Saturday the Dinos face the Bountiful Redhawks. The Redhawks are the No. 14 team in 5A with a record of 5-5. This game was originally scheduled  to take place in March but due to inclement weather was rescheduled.

Bountiful scored the only run of the game in the first inning, and that was all that pitcher Easton Aubuchon needed as he would get the complete game shutout striking out nine Dinos in the process.

Carbon would get two hits from the bat of Jordan Fossat and another single from Wyatt Falk.

On the mound, Jordan Fossat would take the loss for Carbon going seven innings giving up five hits and one earned run while striking out nine.

April 13- Richfield- Win 10-1

The Dinos jumped out early scoring four runs in the first inning. Jordan Fossat would get things started with a single to right allowing Rylan Hart to cross the plate. The next batter up was Kade Dimick who would help his own cause with a three run shot to left.  The Wildcats would add their only run in the top of the third when Dimick would walk in Max Robinson, after that Carbon pitching was locked in facing just 12 batters the rest of the game.

Rylan Hart had three RBI’s on the day to couple with his three hits and two runs. Kade Dimick would also total three RBIs in the contest. Keaton Rich added two and Jordan Fossat one RBI in the victory.

Dimick would shine on the mound going six innings and allowing one earned run on two hits while striking out nine and pushing his ERA for the season to 0.54, which lands him in the No. 8 spot in the state across all classes. Beau Vea would come in and close out the game going one inning giving up no runs and no hits on just 10 pitches.

April 16- Richfield- Win 15-10

Despite scoring in each of the first four innings, the Dinos were faced with a 9-8 deficit entering the fifth frame. Wyatt Falk brought in two runs with a hard single to left field, which led to an offensive explosion before the inning came to an end.

Brayton Nielsen helped pace the Carbon offense as he finished 3-4 with three singles and four RBIs. Falk and Cooper Schade each brought in three runs as the Dinos accumulated 14 hits for the contest.

Only six of Richfield’s 10 runs were earned in Friday’s game. The Wildcats struggled to put the ball in play as they finished with just five hits. Patience at the plate gave them an opportunity to steal a win as they gathered 10 walks over the seven innings.

Rylan Hart was awarded the win on the mound for Carbon as he pitched one inning of relief work, allowing just one hit. Jacob Vasquez went two innings, striking out one batter and allowing just one hit. Jordan Wright and Jordan Fossat combined for three innings.

April 20- Emery- Win 12-2

Locked in a scoreless tie heading into the fourth inning, the Dinos pulled ahead for good with three runs. After a slow start early, the Carbon bats awoke over the final three frames as they added nine more runs to grab the comfortable win.

Jordan Fossat pitched a gem for the Dinos going the distance in a complete game effort allowing just five hits, while striking out six and giving up two earned runs. The win improves Fossat to 3-2 on the mound this season, while dipping his ERA to 2.00.

Carbon received a stellar performance from Cooper Schade at the plate as he blasted a home run in the seventh inning on his way to a 3-4 mark, with three RBIs. Schade also doubled in the sixth inning, scoring Wyatt Falk on a double.

As a team the Dinos finished with 12 hits, five of which came with extra bases. Rylan Hart ended 3-4 with one RBI, while Keaton Rich and Falk also gathered multiple hits.

Friday April 23- Emery- Loss 7-4

Carbon grabbed the early 4-0 lead, but Emery added two runs in the fourth and found their offense in the top of the seventh scoring two runs on Carbon errors. Gannon Ward would drive in two of his four RBIs in the game on a single to center field. Ward would score on a wild pitch two batters later and pushed the score to 7-4 and secured the Emery victory.

Jordan Fossat had another great offensive outing going 3-3 for the Dinos driving in two runs. Rylan Hart, Cooper Schade, and Brayton Nielsen all finished with one hit.

Carbon used a trio of pitchers with Keaton Rich putting in three innings of work giving up two runs (one earned) on two hits and struck out three. Kade Dimick took the loss going 3 2/3 surrendering five earned runs while fanning five. Beau Vea came in and finished out the game.

April 28- Tooele- Win 11-5

The Dinos were looking to rebound from the loss to Emery last week as they got to work early scoring three runs in the first inning. After surrendering a home run to the Buffaloes in the second, Carbon answered right back when Cooper Schade, sitting on a 2-2 count sent one over the right field fence bringing home Rylan Hart. Wyatt Falk would cap off a four run fourth inning with a two run double to right field.

Schade went 3-of-4 at the plate for the Dinos with three RBIs. Jacob Vasquez and Kade Dimick tacked on two hits each in the victory.

On the mound it was Jordan Wright that got the start and the win going 4 1/3 innings giving up five runs (three earned) on eight hits and struck out four. Falk would come in going 2 2/3 allowing no runs and no hits while striking out five.

April 29- Grand- Win 10-0

Carbon put up nine runs in the first three innings. Jordan Fossat got things going in the first with a two run double to left field. The very next batter Kade Dimick, sent a triple to right field scoring Fossat. Brayton Nielsen would hit a single to center adding one run in the second and Cooper Schade would cross the plate in the third on a passed ball to push the lead to 9-0. The Dinos added one more run in the bottom of the fifth putting the score at 10-0 and ending the game in five innings.

Fossat went 2-of-3 with three runs and three RBIs. Jacob Vasquez was 2-of-4, scoring a run. Six other Dinos registered a hit in the shut out win.

On the mound Kade Dimick pitched a gem, getting the complete game win, giving up just two hits and no runs while striking out eight. This brings his season ERA to 0.51 and puts him in the top five in the state including all classifications.

April 30- Grand Win 13-0

Jordan Fossat got the start for the Dinos and turned in a one hit, nine strikeout performance pushing his season record to 2-2 and a 2.00 ERA. He also received great offensive support from his team mates as Carbon collected 11 hits.

Fossat helped his own cause going 4-of-4 at the plate with three RBI’s, none bigger than his double to right in the top of the fifth inning which brought home Rylan Hart and Cooper Schade.

Wyatt Falk and Schade would go 2-of 4 with Falk driving in two runs and Schade scoring three. Jacob Vasquez snagged one hit and drove in three. The Dinos capitalized on Grand’s four errors scoring two runs and also scored on a passed ball.

May 3- American Leadership Win 11-1

The Dinos jumped out quickly against the Eagles putting three runs on the board in the first inning. They added four more in the second starting with a Jordan Fossat triple to center. Kade Dimick came up to bat next and would fly out to center, but that allowed Fossat to tag up and score. Dimick came up again in the third smashing a triple of his own, driving Fossat home from first.

The Dinos pushed their lead to 11-0 in the top of the fifth, and in the bottom half of the inning would surrender the only run to American Leadership on a walk.

Carbon’s offense was put on display led by Dimick who went 3-of-4 from the plate and drove in four runs. Rylan Hart, Cooper Schade, Wyatt Falk, Keaton Rich and Fossat all collected two hits in the victory for the Dinos.

On the mound Falk was given the start and collected the win going 4 1/3 innings giving up just one earned run on one hit and struck out five.  Schade was brought into go 1/3 of an inning striking out one and Jordan Wright went 1/3 to end the contest.

Round one:

May 8- South Sevier- Win 6-0

In the first game of the double-header the Dinos received a gem on the mound from pitcher Kade Dimick, who held South Sevier to just three hits in a complete game shutout.

Picking up where he left off in the regular season, Dimick did a fantastic job of keeping the Rams off balance. Needing just 108 pitches to earn the seven inning win, Dimick struck out nine batters and registered strikes on 65-percent of his pitches.

Dimick helped his own cause offensively as he scored the first run of the game breaking a scoreless tie in the bottom of the second. After knocking a triple in the first at bat of the frame, he scored two batters later as Jordan Vasquez registered an RBI on a ground out to third.

The score remained 1-0 until the bottom of the fourth when the Dinos put together a two-out rally to create distance on the scoreboard. Derick Robinson tripled to center field, scoring Brayton Nielsen in the process. Robinson scored on the next at bat following a single by Rylan Hart. That set the stage for Cooper Schade to blast a two-run home run to right field before the end of the frame.

The final two innings were a formality for Carbon as they added one more insurance run in the fifth. The loss dropped South Sevier to the one-loss bracket, where they suffered a 13-7 loss to Manti to end their season.

May 8- Grantsville- Loss 7-5

A scoreless ballgame for two innings, both teams encountered success at the plate in the third frame. Grantsville used a fielder’s choice sacrifice from sophomore Jace Sandberg to plate the first run of the game. Moments later Jaxson George singled through the shortstop gap to increase the advantage to 2-0.

Carbon wasted little time answering to the deficit as they captured the lead before heading into the fourth. The three-run frame started as Keaton Rich was hit by a pitch in the first at bat, leading to RBIs from Nielsen, Hart and Jordan Wright.

Grantsville capitalized on a Carbon error in the fourth inning to tie the game. The Dinos returned the favor as Wyatt Falk scored on an error in the fifth to once again give Carbon a one-run lead. A run from the Cowboys in the sixth inning made all things equal entering the seventh.

Back-to-back errors and a walk loaded the bases for Grantsville with no outs in the top half of the seventh. With one out the Cowboys received a timely hit from Caleb Sullivan, who singled to left field. Grantsville would add two more runs, taking a three run advantage as Carbon came to the plate for their final at bats.

The Dinos were rejuvenated as Rich started the inning with a double to center field. Ridge Nielsen reached moments later on an error, bringing the tying run to the plate with no outs.

Despite the early inning success Carbon was only able to plate one run as Hart singled to left field. Grantsville closed the game with a fielder’s choice and strikeout, earning the 7-5 win as Carbon left two runners stranded.

Round two:

May 13- American Leadership- Win 12-2

In the opening contest of the day, Carbon faced the American Leadership Academy Eagles. The Dinos played the Eagles in the final game of the regular season winning 11-1. Carbon used a big fourth inning to take the victory in this one 12-2.

Carbon would methodically put up run after run scoring in every inning. In the fourth, the Dinos piled it on scoring five runs from three doubles off the bats of Derek Robinson, Rylan Hart and Cooper Schade.

Jacob Vasquez got the start on the mound going four innings taking the win. Vasquez gave up two earned runs on six hits and struck out three.  Schade came in to end the game going one inning striking out one.

May 13- Emery- Win 10-0

Carbon used their defense to hold Emery in check all game long. The Carbon bats were active, collecting 10 hits and scoring runs in every inning but two. The Dinos kept at the Spartans knocking them out of the playoffs by taking the 10-0 win.

Scoreless through the first inning, Carbon added two runs in the second and then would go on to score three runs in each of the next two. In the fourth, with Carbon up 5-0 and Schade on first, Jordan Fossat would send one over the left field fence. Two batters later Kade Dimick would score on a Ridge Nielsen ground out.

Wyatt Falk was on the mound for the Dinos in this one, and was locked in from the beginning. Getting the complete game shutout. With his defense behind him, Falk gave up just two hits while striking out eight.

Fossat went 2-of-3 including a home run and drove in two runs. Hart, Nielsen and Dimick all collected multiple hits.

May 14- Judge Memorial- Win- 11-9

Judge Memorial jumped out to an early 2-0 lead and Carbon would come back taking the lead although briefly as Judge would tie it up at three in the bottom of the third inning.

Things would get interesting in the fourth inning when Kade Dimick stepped up with the bases loaded with one out and sitting on two strikes sent a double to left and brought everybody home. Ridge Nielsen came up in the next at bat and brought home Dimick, putting the Carbon lead at 8-3.

Judge loaded up the bases and Carbon brought in Jordan Fossat to get them out of the inning,  Fossat walked in one run, and then with two outs the Bulldogs would rally to take a 9-8 lead.

Carbon came back to tie it up and held on in the bottom of the seventh, sending the game into extra innings. In the eighth, Ridge Nielsen would score on an error by the third baseman. A Brayton Nielsen single that brought home Wyatt Falk pushed the score to 11-9. The Carbon defense did the rest and they knocked out Judge Memorial, moving on in the playoffs.

Dimick and Ridge Nielsen both collected two hits and two RBIs and each scored two runs.

Jordan Wright got the start for the Dinos on the mound, going five innings and giving up five earned runs striking out four. Rylan Hart entered in the sixth inning, getting one out and Fossat came in to take the win going 2 and 2/3,  giving up two runs on three hits striking out two.

May 14- Juab- Win 8-4

The pitchers kept everyone in check in the early going until the sixth inning when Carbon would open up the offense scoring six runs off of two singles and a pair of doubles including one from Keaton Rich that brought home Ridge Nielsen, helping Carbon put six runs on the board.

Juab made a run in the bottom of the sixth pulling within three runs. Rich came up in the seventh flying out to the right fielder, that allowed Fossat to tag up and score.

Fossat was 3-of-4, with two RBIs and a score. Hart and Rich both added two RBIs for the big Carbon win.

After defeating Judge and Juab, and with Union being knocked out earlier in the tournament, the No. 4 Dinos are the highest remaining seed.

May-15- Richfield- Win 7-4

Carbon had fought their way back and were one game away from the Championship Game. To get there they would face Richfield, defeating them for the third time this season 7-4 and moving on.

Carbon jumped out early scoring five runs in the first two innings and Carbon pitchers Keaton Rich and Beau Vea had Richfield on lock down throughout.

Ridge Nielsen drove in three runs on two hits, Rich and Kade Dimick collected two hits each as well.

On the mound, Rich got the start and the victory going five innings, surrendering four runs (two earned). Vea came in going two giving up a hit and striking out two.

May 15- Granstville- Win 5-4 Game one

The Dinos jumped out early in the second inning on two singles from the bats of Derek Robinson and Keaton Rich that each drove in one run. A fielders choice would bring Rich home and an error on the shortstop let Jacob Vasquez score another pushing the Carbon lead to 4-1.

Beau Vea started on the mound for the Dinos, and kept the Cowboys in check with the help of his defense until the fourth when Grantsville would tie it up at four all.

Carbon collected 10 hits in the game with perhaps none bigger than a single in the sixth inning from Cooper Schade driving home Rylan Hart putting the Dinos up 5-4 and sealing the victory.

Jordan Fossat, Ridge Nielsen, Robinson and Hart all had two hits in the contest with Robinson,Hart and Nielsen each gathering up an RBI.

Vea went four innings getting the win, giving up four runs (three earned), on four hits striking out four. Hart came into close out the game with three innings of work, allowing four hits and striking out three.

May 15- Grantsville- Loss 14-4 Game two

Grantsville put five runs on the board quickly against the Dinos in game two,  putting Carbon on the defensive early. The Dinos  would put one run on the board in the inning off of a Kade Dimick fly out to left that allowed Hart to tag up and score.

The two teams held each other in check with pitching and defense as they moved into the later innings. Carbon would cut the Cowboys lead to four in the third but that was as close as they would get as Grantsville used a six run fifth inning pushing the Dinos to the edge of elimination.

The Dinos added two more runs in the bottom of fifth off of walks of Schade and Vea. The Cowboys would add two more runs pushing the score to 14-4, ending the game.

Hart had two hits and one run in the game.  Fossat had one hit and drove in a run and Dimick registered on RBI as well.

Vasquez got the start on the mound for the Dinos taking the loss giving up five runs (two earned) on three hits. O’Neil came in to go three innings and allowed three earned runs while striking out two. Hart and Camden Wilson finished out the contest.

With the loss Carbon claimed second in the 3A State Championship tournament where they played nine games, more than any other team in the playoffs.

“For us, we judge our season by where we are at at the end of the year and where we finish. And this was a successful season for us by our standards. Playing for a state title game is awesome and I know we fell a bit short, but like I said before we are just extremely proud of our team.” Cisneros stated.
