The City of Elmo recently held an open house for their newly renovated Town Hall. Castle Country Radio was able to speak over the telephone with Mayor James Winn about the open house, town clean-up, sidewalk project, and the annual Horse & Buggy Days celebration.

“We were able to do our Open House for our Town Hall and had some people come out to check that out. New fire bays, a place to park the ambulance so the EMTs in town can respond quicker so it’s good to have, its nice to have it there. Now it has a kitchen, so if people want to come have a family party or something there will be a fridge, microwave there and also a little kitchen for people to serve food and that kind of thing there. It will be a nice place for people to gather,” said Mayor Winn. Community members are looking forward to having a facility to host various events at.

“As far as the town clean-up we’ll go for the next week and half. We’ll have the dumpsters out there, they’re just there temporarily so people can use them to their yard waste in and that kind of stuff so that they can clean-up their yards. It’s just a service that we’re providing to the town to help them out,” said Mayor James Winn. The dumpsters are located throughout town and folks are welcomed to use them during the city wide clean-up.

The city recently finished up a sidewalk project within the city. “We just finished that up and closed that out with the contractor, they did a really nice job. We have a nice sidewalk that goes all the way up to our cemetery now so people can walk right up on the sidewalk, it’s a nice little place right now. We had several places in town with new sidewalks, it’s nice,” said Mayor Winn. This was a beautification project to enhance the look of the city.

The city has been working on getting sponsors for their annual city celebration, Horse & Buggy Days. “It’ll be August 12 through the 14, it’s always that second week in August so we kept there this year, it feels a little later because the month starts a little earlier but its still that weekend. We’re just working on getting sponsors, we put their name on a t-shirt, we always have our Horse & Buggy Days t-shirts that’s a good tradition,” stated Mayor Winn. If anybody is interested in being a sponsor for this year’s Hors & Buggy Days can call Elmo Town Hall at (435) 653-2125 for more information.
