Trevin Brazier, Jess Christiansen and Jaxton Lake earned top finishes for the Emery Spartan track and field team as they competed at the 3A State Championships in Kaysville last Friday and Saturday. Overall the boys team finished in third place behind Morgan and Juab, the girls finished in fourteenth place after the weekend of competition.

Brazier ended his career at Emery turning in three top finishes. In the 110 meter hurdles he crossed the finish at the 15.16 mark just ahead of Carbon’s Ryker Childs. Brazier would move onto the 100 meter finishing in a time of 11.41 and then in the 300 meter hurdles he would claim his third title of the day with a time of 38.38, almost a full two seconds ahead of second place finisher Jacob Eldridge of Juab. Brazier would also claim the second spot in the 200 with a time of 22.36, seconds off of first place.

Christiansen, a junior, claimed the top prize in the 3200 meters with a time of 9:46.55, a full eight minutes ahead of second place finisher Richard Crane of Richfield and his time of 9:54.48. Christiansen would go on to claim second in the 1600 meter with a time of 4:26, two seconds off the pace set by Crane, Bryar Meccariello would finish in seventh. Christiansen would also take third in the 800 for the Spartans.

Jaxton Lake, another senior on this years team, threw for a State Championship in the shot put. Lake has been a top finisher consistently this year for the Spartans in the throwing events. Maddox Christman claimed the fourth spot and Derek Canterbury, grabbed third in the discus.

Morgan finished in first place followed by Juab. Emery, Delta and Richfield rounded out the top five for the boys.

The Delta Lady Rabbits showed their dominance on the track finishing with 164 points, doubling up second place Morgan’s 81. Juab, Union and Carbon made up the rest of the top 5.

For the Spartans, senior Bethany Justice finished in the fifth spot in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 47.53. Justice has been a major contributor to the Lady Spartans all season.

Junior Haley Guymon, ended her season with a fifth place finish in the javelin.
