There is always something fun and exciting taking place in Helper so Castle Country Radio caught up with Mayor Lenise Peterman to find out what is happening. She was able to talk about the Saturday Vibes, Utah Symphony, grant money and work day at the cemetery.
There is a new event that Helper, along with Kim Koon, will be hosting on Saturdays during the summer months. “So she stubbled on Helper a few years ago, was really excited about things going on there and has decided to try to bring in a new event. It will occur, I believe there are eight Saturdays throughout the Summer where she’ll have live bands, vendors in the park, food vendors, beer and wine. So she is really going to make some things happen in Helper and we’re excited to have it happen,” stated Mayor Peterman. Helper Saturday Vibes is free and will run from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the Helper Historic Main Street Park.
Another great event that will be taking place on Helper’s Historic Main Street is the Utah Symphony is coming to town in August. “We’re going to do a free outdoor concert with the Utah Symphony, we’re so excited to have that happen. But we anticipate the stage being set across Main Street and then we’ll have beach chairs for the patrons that they bring down, chairs beyond that, and bleachers so that you can look down Main Street see the beautiful Balance Rock and listen to the symphony, so we’re excited about that,” stated Mayor Peterman. This event is scheduled to take place on August 11 and more details will come as the event gets closer.
The city received some more grant funding to help with Phase Six of the River Restoration Project. “So Phase Six which is our most ambitious phase it’s costing about $1 million to $2 million. So we received another $225,000.00 from the Water Shed Restoration Initiative they have been a strategic partner throughout all of these phases. It’s wonderful to work with them, they’re excited about the work we’ve been able to do with the funding that they give us. That’s just getting us a little closer to our goal and you know its going to happen,” stated Mayor Peterman. Residents should see some work taking place in the winter months.
On June 16 at the city’s cemetery, there will be a lady who is going to come in to help restore some older headstones. “We got connected to a state resource who actually offered to come check out the cemetery, and I expressed how our older flat headstones they’re not sinking the soil is building up around them. Because when you think about a headstone in place in 1902 things have happened. So she graciously volunteered to come work with us and show us how we can lift those and we’re going to start that June 16 at 10:00 am,” explained Mayor Peterman. City officials are looking forward to restoring some of the older headstones for those community members who have passed on.
