Carbon High School seniors Preston Condie and Keenan Hatch have both signed letters of intent to play basketball at Northwest College.
Surrounded by friends, family and coaches, the two seniors made it official inside Carbon High School’s gymnasium on Wednesday morning. Both Condie and Hatch will serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints before enrolling at Northwest College in 2023.
“First of all I think they are two just really great people,” said Northwest College head coach Jay Collins. “They both fit what I want to do. They are skilled, they can play inside and outside and they have great motors. I think they are going to fit in our program tremendously.”
Named to the 2020-21 3A All-State First Team, Condie appeared in all 23 games for the Dinos this past season. Finishing as the fourth highest scorer in the classification, Condie averaged a team best 17.4 points per game to go along with 7.7 rebounds. He was also selected to the 3A All-Star game this past March.
A focal point for the Carbon offense in his senior campaign, Condie recorded a career high 31 points on two separate occasions. He also finished with 30 points in a thrilling double overtime win over North Sanpete in the 3A State Tournament.
“I’ve been dreaming about this day ever since I was a little kid,” said Condie. “My Dad is a basketball coach, so he’s prepared me for things like this. I’m ready to go and super excited to do this.”
Hatch, a 6-foot-10 center, will join Northwest after averaging 8.6 points, 6.3 rebounds and 2.7 blocks per game. A defensive nightmare for teams inside the paint, Hatch recorded at least four blocks nine separate times this season. He set a career high in blocks with 10 as he added 10 points in a 64-52 win over the Union Cougars on Dec. 14.
“I’m so excited to get to play with Preston for two more years and be in a competitive environment,” said Hatch. “I’ve dreamed about this my entire life. Just being able to go to the next level and compete is awesome.”
Northwest College is a Division 1 NJCAA program located in Powell, Wyo. Competing in Region 9, the Trappers finished with a 7-14 record in 2021.
