The Emery County USU Extension Office has a full calendar of upcoming events for adults and children. Extension Assistant Professor, Rowe Zwahlen took time to stop by Castle Country Radio to talk about all the details.
A Wheel Line Irrigation Improvement and Optimization Workshop is scheduled for Friday, June 4 at 9:00 am till 11:30 am. “We’ll actually meet in the park in Wellington and then we’ll go out to a field and look at some wheel lines. We’ve got Dr. Neal Allen is an Irrigation Specialist coming down from Logan to help run that. We’ll be talking about system maintenance, and really how to optimize your system and get the best performance that you can out of it,” said Zwahlen. This will be a hands-on workshop on system evaluation and management. This is a free event and you must RSVP by calling (435) 636-3235.
Then on Saturday, June 5 at 10:00 am till 12:00 pm at the Green River Community Center there will be another hands-on opportunity to help install a sprinkling system. “It’s going to be hands-on so you can actually see how we put together a residential system. So we are going to be doing a new system to water the grass there at the Community Center. We’ll show you how to put all the pipes together and adjust heads. They also have some garden boxes there that they work on with the kids and the community gardeners so we will be doing a drip system for those grow beds there. In cause that’s something you’re interested in looking at this year,” explained Zwahlen. To find out more information about this event contact the Emery County USU Extension Office at (435) 381-2381.
There will be an Emery/Carbon County Day Camp for 4-H Members to attend on June 16 at 10:00 am till 3:00 pm. “So we’ll be meeting at the Swell Retreat, it’s just outside of Castle Dale, it’s kind of a new place but they got a lot of water activities there. We’re going to be doing some kayaking, a little fishing, they’ve got a zip line that goes out over the lake, and a huge sort of slip and slide down the hill that I think will be a lot of fun,” said Zwahlen. You must be a registered 4-H Member in order to attend and the deadline to register for the Emery/Carbon County Day Camp is June 2. For more information contact the USU Extension Office in Emery County at (435) 381-3535.
