Helper’s First Friday Celebration will take place on Friday, June 4 at 6:00 pm on Helper’s Historic Main Street and this month’s theme is Dragabilly. There will be many fun activities and events for the entire family to enjoy. Event Coordinator, Ashley Hardy took time to stop by Castle Country Radio to discuss all the details.

This month’s theme comes from an event that took place years ago in Helper. “This event that occurred in Helper called the Days of 49 where men would dress as women and race beds down the street. There were a lot of other events that occurred but it basically was a fundraiser as well, and we’re kind of recreating that and doing it again,” said Hardy. Guests of Helper’s First Friday will have the opportunity to race down Main Street during the event with races starting at 7:00 pm. To register for the race, you will need to sign up on Helper’s First Friday Facebook page and must be a team of at least three people.

The Kangaroo Jail will be up and running again this year to help raise money for future First Friday events. “So you can have someone arrested by an officer and put in a fake jail. You submit a donation and that person in the jail has to either meet that donation to bail themselves out or stay the full time in the jail. This was so funny in 2019, it was a hoot, we are excited about it,” said Hardy. Guests can have someone arrested for as little as $5.00 and the mock jail will be located at the city’s fire station on Main Street.

There will be a costume contest held for those dressing in drag at Canvas Alchemy. “So men and women are invited to dress in drag and the winner with the most likes of Instagram and Facebook gets prizes which are to be announced, so it’s a fun one,” stated Hardy. If dressing in drag is not your style but showing off your classic car is than bring your classic car down to Vintage Motor Company. They’ve invited folks to show off their classic cars in the front of their location during the evening’s event.

The kids will have plenty to do during the First Friday event as there are businesses setting up some fun activities. “So Helper Vibes is providing the bounce houses again in the Main Street Park and then Three Little Llamas is doing a craft of building race cars as well” said Hardy. Bug and Bird Mercantile will be recycling themed giveaways for kids with treats.

Local restaurants such as Balance Rock Eatery, The Filing Station and Marsha’s Sammich Shop will be open for guests to stop by and enjoy a bite to eat. There will be several vendors set up along the street that will feature various items and offer other fun activities. Any individuals interested in being a vendor for the celebration can contact Helper First Friday officials on Facebook to get registered. The vendor fee is only $35.00.
